Help Kenan start the first Fly Lab in his country

Donation protected
I had the chance of knowing Kenan as we were both part of Amgen Scholars Program at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. It is a summer research program, during which one has also the opportunity to know other peers, get inspired by them and make wonderful friendships. Kenan is a very motivated student and has always shown great commitment in Science. Therefore, I would like to help him raising some money in order to  create the first Fly Lab in Bosnia and Herzegovina. .

This is his message: "Hello, everyone! My name is Kenan Kraković. I am an undergraduate genetics student from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Currently I'm trying to achieve a wonderful goal, which could ultimately, positively affect all students of biological sciences in my home country. Here's what it's all about:

The common fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is arguably the most important model organism in genetics and six Nobel prizes deserved on its basis testify to its importance. For one reason or another, Bosnia and Herzegovina, my home country, currently has 0 laboratories conducting any kind of research on the fruit fly. I want to change this and start the first Fly Lab in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We have already taken first steps in making the Fly Lab a reality: we secured the space on International Burch University in Sarajevo, and teamed up with Association of Biology Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing financial support for the first stereo microscope. Now, we need your help in making this vision come true. We aim to equip our laboratory with another good-quality stereo microscope, fly pads and the supporting equipment needed for experiments in the following year. A dear professor of mine, Amina Kurtović- Kozarić, who did her PhD on fruit fly, agreed to give full support as my scientific mentor in this project. This project has the potential to, in the long term, benefit students of biological sciences of entire Bosnia and Herzegovina by offering internships, educational workshops, seminars and practical courses.

All visions have rough beginnings, and such is this one without exception, but, with your help, we can overcome it and provide a better education for students in Bosnia and Herzegovina."
