Help keep LCARSgfx alive: Fund a PC
My friends,
It is with a heavy heart I must concede that my trusty Packard Bell OneTwo PC is no longer up to the task of running the programs I need to produce my graphics works I hope you all enjoy. She has spent thousands of hours keeping up with me, but is now blue screening with so much regularity, it is no longer fun to work on my graphics. I have done my best to resolve the issue, but at 6 years old, going on 7, she's passed her prime. That is why I am here, cap in hand, looking to see if some of you would be gracious enough to help me with the cost of a replacement. My salary in my day job isn't up to the task and without a replacement, my graphics work will cease at the moment of death for my current PC.
The reasons why I cannot afford the replacement on my own are numerous. Mostly due to being made move home 3 times in 5 years by three successive landlords that decided to sell the apartment I was renting. Each move cost £1800 in fees and rents in advance and all 3 have depleted my reserves. Believe me, I wish I didn't need to resort to Gofundme, but if I'm to continue with my work and also continue supporting fan films, I have no other choice.
I have investigated the options and have come up with a system from pcspecialist.co.uk which will not only allow me to continue what I am doing, but will also have enough resources to allow me to expand my services and learn new skills so as to better serve the Science Fiction community.
The price (goal of this gofundme) is steep, but reflects the need for:
- Lots of storage (1TB main drive, 2TB secondary – Both conventional, not SSD)
- A large screen with good high definition resolution (32” in this case)
- A strong CPU (Intel i5 or i7 Quad Core 3.2 to 4.2 ghz)
- A Graphics card for better on screen depiction of graphics. (2gb GeForce GTX 1050)
- A good motherboard to run it all (Unclear at this time)
- A good PSU to power it.
I have also added a little extra to take care of the percentage the owners of gofundme will take from the donations.
This is not a gaming machine. Those that know me will know I have little time for games. I spend most of my free time in Photoshop or Illustrator. Both need a good strong system to work fluidly and fast. I have chosen to stick with Windows as it's my preferred platform.
I know there will be one burning question in your minds. “What is in it for me?”.
Well, to be honest, I can't offer much. But I can offer the following:
2. If I reach my goal, every donor of $ 5 or more will get 15 Axanar Bridge monitor graphics from the various ships that will be featured in Axanar. These graphics will be designs approved by Alec Peters and part of official Axanar canon.
Each MSD/Graphic will come in the form of a vectorised PDF file. Vectorised means you will be able to scale it to any size you wish without loosing detail or quality. This makes them ideal for printing out as posters or even onto backlit material.
Donor's may also have a custom name and registry added to their MSD.
You will of course have my ever lasting gratitude and I will be sure to publish a list of thanks on my blog.
And do not forget, you will have enabled me to continue with my work and produce great MSDs and other graphics as well as support fan films with scenic art and concepts.
If there is enough interest, I will make a video of the arrival, unpacking and setup of the system. So you can all see what your generosity has produced. Again, a list of thanks will be shown.
