Help Karina Study Abroad in Ghana Africa

Hi there,

My name is Karina Ysabel Cerda and I am extremely thrilled to announce that I will be taking the next step into furthering my education. For those who do not know me too well, I’ll give a bit more insight about my life. I was born and raised in Oceanside CA, have 3 younger siblings and am currently enrolled at a university nearly 10 hours away from home. In high school, I was accepted to all 6 schools that I applied too and decided I would commit to California State University Chico and become the first in my family to earn a degree. I do my best to practice independence and personal growth, which is why moving so far away seemed like a great idea. So far, I have not found myself regretting that decision what-so-ever. In fact, I have enjoyed learning in a completely different environment than what I was used to back home. Sure there is little diversity and it is a much smaller town in comparison to Oceanside, but that encompasses the whole idea of being able to push yourself to take on challenges in new circumstances.

With sociology as my major and my minor being multicultural studies with a focus on women studies, it has really allowed me to look at situations through a variety of lenses. I often get asked what motivates me to stay focused on my academics and future and most times, it consists of different responses. Some days it is remembering that I am so much more than just one representation of a minority group, while other days it is the complete opposite with recognizing my privileges in comparison to other struggling students. Then there are moments when reality hits and I am reminded that change in this world only happens if you work for it and of course, knowing that I will graduate having paved the way for other youngsters with ambitious goals.

As an individual who means to find work in an organization/foundation that can genuinely provide for fractions and communities who lack aid and equity, it is critical that I learn as much as possible during my time as a student. I want to be able to ensure comfort, contribute education and offer effective resources for more than one subgroup. My goal is to reach out to people from non-Americans, families in poverty, troubled teenagers, the LGBTQIA+ people, women of color and other folks. However, I am not blinded to the fact that I must remain strong-minded and understanding as well as soak in all skill sets that may be beneficial.

My entire future career will continuously revolve around the phenomenon that I will be working with people of different backgrounds and struggles. Which is why I get more excited each day as it gets closer to me moving to Ghana Africa. I will apprehend a lifestyle that has no familiarity with me in terms of their way of teaching, customs, struggles, and culture. What more of a pure way to get some hands-on, life-changing, and extraordinary life lessons then to submerge myself into trying and learning new openings.

I am one of the luckier scholars to have a community in my corner to wish me success and cheer me on. So I would like to acknowledge my friends and family who have supported me from the beginning as well as the newer relationships that have molded who have expressed their faith in me.

With that said, thank you in advance for any voluntary donations that you contribute, for it is considerably appreciated. Keep in mind, 100% of all funds donated will go to cover the cost of my plane tickets, tuition, supplies, and the cost of living. Any amount is appreciated and thank you for your love, care and support while I transition into this exciting and beautiful new chapter in my life.

GHANA, HERE I COME!
