Help Karen O'Brien Recover
It was a shock on January 24th to learn that Karen suffered a stroke as a side-effect from some other health issues she has struggled with for years. Her sister flew into town to be at her side while she recovered in the ICU. Thankfully, Karen's memory and cognition appears in tact, but she is experiencing an affected left side of her body, which will need medical expertise and therapy. She will likely remain in the hospital for an extended time while she works to regain mobility and function.
Although Karen has grown close to so many of her little patients, the babies she calls her own are her fur-babies. She has two dogs and three cats that she adores. Her sister has been caring for her beloved animals thus far, but needs to return home soon. While she is recovering in the hospital we would like to provide funds for her animals to be cared for together in their home three times a day. We are hoping to raise three months of care for her animals, and any additional funds will be put towards medical bills. To ease this burden from Karen would be such a blessing to her and we are so grateful for any donation.

She is at home with her fur babies and is receiving 24/7 nursing care as well as frequent visits from family and friends. She is making progress in re-learning walking and she said that her left knee is now bending when she takes a step which is an improvement. Her left arm and leg is getting some feeling, unfortunately it's very painful.
Karen is staying positive and likes to read and watch things that inspire hope. She is still the Karen/Kerni we know and love but she gets frustated with forgetfulness. She is also doing exercises to help her mind.
The stressful aspect currently is that while she is in process to get her remaining finances from all her years of working and disability assistance everything is currently in a standstill. Having gone through her savings and your amazing contributions she is feeling the strain of medical bills piling up. I know she would be incredibly appreciative if we could help her during this period of waiting before everything starts coming in. Thank you for your support!
Oh, Kerni! I hated to read about your stroke. It sounds like you are getting great care and that your animals are also getting the loving care they need til you are on your feet again. Heal quickly, my friend...we are thinking of you!
Praying for a fast recovery! You were the best nurse for Alex in nicu and you really helped me when I was falling apart. You are loved ❤️
