Help K. and Family Start Their New Life

K. and her family fled extreme violence in their home in Central America. K. was heavily pregnant at the time and had survived being sexually assaulted by gangs and stabbed about the face in an effort to intimidate her husband to give all
of their money to the gangs. Her young daughter was not safe in their home either. After the gangs murdered a man in front of the young family as an ominous warning, they all fled and made the dangerous journey to the USA. After her ten year old daughter became sick along the way, K. made the journey alone while her husband stayed behind to seek medical treatment for the daughter. K. made it to our country, was locked up in a detention center, and eventually gave birth in a Texas hospital and was verbally abused by the guards, incensed that she would give birth here, and then forced to sleep behind toilets in the camps with her baby once they were released from the hospital.
Thankfully, she had a friend who would let them stay with her, and she was eventually joined by her husband and her daughter who both finally got to meet the new baby!
Now they are working so very hard to save for their own place. They have overstayed the amount of time the friend was able to host them
and have to raise at least $500 by August 7 in order to move to a new apartment they found. K. is working cleaning houses while her husband is a cab driver, and though they are saving every penny, it is still not enough.
