Help Julie and Johnny Recover

$1,935 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 20 people in 11 months
Days ago, Johnny miraculously survived a terrible car accident. After major surgery, Julie and Johnny are facing months of painful assisted rehabilitation and expenses, and neither of them will be able to go to work during this time. With all of this, they also have a very young daughter to support. And it's unclear whether Johnny's medical expenses will be covered at all.

Why should you pitch in, especially if you don't know these kids? Julie is very special to me, to say the least. She is one of the best mothers I've ever known, works her behind off in night classes, and I've seen her, over the past several years, serve the public with exceptional tenderness and integrity.  Everyone who is fortunate enough to call Julie family or a friend is blessed because of it.

Even a dollar from you will add to their ability to carry on until their incomes pick back up. Please, contribute whatever you can. ❤️

Johnny has to take blood thinners, but his insurance only covers enough of the Rx to last for the first 3 weeks of each month. This is leaving him and Julie to pick up a $300 tab every month just to cover the remaining week. This is one prescription. Can you imagine having to find an extra $300 every month to afford potentially life-saving medication?

Car insurance, groceries, gas...It's been one messed-up game of hopscotch to ensure there's enough to keep the meals coming and the car fueled. Any amount helps. None of us should have to decide between basic needs. It's not conducive to healing and it's traumatic for the children involved. Thank you dearly to the donors so far. Even a few dollars makes a huge difference.

If you know me but don't know Julie, please know this is important to me. If we can't offer assistance and empathy to each other, we're not going to be able to make it through life's worst turns. Forego a Starbucks order, a movie ticket, or a snack and do something better with it. ❤ Thank you so much.

June 28th:

Johnny is out of the hospital, and is now receiving home health care with visiting therapists and nurses. He's essentially immobilized outside of his short physical therapy sessions. Julie has her hands full, being his caretaker and of course caring for their toddler, Rubi.

It's all about the equipment now. Wheelchair, crutches, walker. It's too early in the game for Johnny to be able to get in and out of bed without help being lifted, but he's been powering through the therapy and is eager to make progress. Other than the mobility devices, they've had to make shower and bathroom accommodations, and fork out for crucial supplies.

If you or anyone you know has been through a drastic accident and recovery, part of it is learning the hard way that just because you need a piece of equipment or a regular replenishment of supplies doesn't mean those things are covered by every insurance policy.

Julie and Johnny's attitudes are positive and overflowing with gratitude for the generosity of the donors who have reached out to help them make it to this point. It is my personal hope that if you've read this far, that you'll be willing to chip in to help this family. A few dollars doesn't seem significant, but it can mean all the difference--a prescription refill copay, a gallon of gas, a bag of groceries, a hot meal for Rubi. When we reach out to each other in this way, it makes the entire world around us feel brighter amidst all of the terrible global news with which we've been pummeled in the past several months. With all of the suffering we're witnessing and feeling, I propose the following:

Pitch in a few bucks, and watch what it does for you.

Your comrade,
Jana

We want to thank everyone who has given us support. It's been a huge eye opener and humbling experience to see our friends so generously and selfishly give without hesitation. I can't thank all of you enough but I want you to know Johnny & I can't put into words how much it means to us. Cross your fingers I get to take him home today!
