Julianne Speyer is a 12 year old girl from Russell, Ohio. She noticed that an announcer at the Chesterland 4th of July parade labeled the Boy Scouts as "future leaders" and said that the Girl Scouts were "just having fun." Julianne recognized the sexist and patronizing nature of this comment and wrote a letter to the editor in an attempt to make a change.
