Help JOSHY and Toni Survive

Joshy is a 19-year-old young man with multiple disabilities and medical conditions including, Down Syndrome (T21), Autism, Hearing impairment, Congenital Heart Disease, Degenerative Lung Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Hirschsprung’s Disease, Dumping Syndrome and Chronic Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction, just to name a few.  Joshy has a wonderful mother, Toni, who fights every single day to make sure that Joshy receives everything that he possibly needs.  She fights and fights until she is exhausted, but she never gives up.  Sadly, despite all the fighting that Toni does it just doesn’t seem to be enough.  She gets through 1 fight only for 4 more to pop up. 

Unfortunately, Joshy is now considered palliative and the fighting continues.  Joshy requires oxygen as well as life support machines in their home to ensure that Joshy survives.  Her NDIS Funding seems to constantly be a fight with cuts and issues with plans and because of her Rural location trying to get help is all most impossible. She battles with QLD Health system as Joshy is an extremely complex case and is in considerable pain. Toni & Joshy must make the journey from Toowoomba to Brisbane regularly which is not just financially taxing but completely drains both of them physically and mentally and takes Joshy considerable time to recover from, we decided to try and get them some help after another long two hour each way and 300 km return journey down to Brisbane to see the Dr's.

Joshy is massive fan of Grant Denyer and Dami Im. Joshy was extremely excited when Grant's new show started on channel 10. It's the simple things in life that (a tv show coming on) that makes Joshy's and Toni's whole life bearable. The joy that Toni sees on Joshy's face when he can watch his favourite TV star is what keeps Toni going.  Toni understands unfortunately, she may not have much time left with Joshy and this is a reality that not only breaks her heart but breaks the heart of the whole T21 community (Down Syndrome community).  Despite all the setbacks that they get on a very regular basis, Toni wakes up every day and starts the fight all over again.
