Help John McConnell Recover

Donation protected
I started this GoFundMe campaign for my boyfriend, John McConnell.  John sings for a living and he's really good at it!  He performs over 200 events annually and since 2013, music has been his sole source of income.

In recent months, John began having difficulty with both his speech and his singing and went to see a medical specialist.  The specialist discovered a polyp on his vocal chord (technically, the diagnosis is a "right true vocal fold lesion") that requires surgery.

While it's great to have answers, there is a downside;  John will be unable to sing for two or more months after this procedure and when he starts again, he will have to ease his way back in.  If he is unable to sing then he is unable to make a living.

I started this GoFundMe campaign for those of you who are not in the Oswego area and would like to help.  John has friends everywhere!  If you would like to contribute,  please consider donating or sharing this campaign.  With a little financial assistance, John will be able to focus more exclusively on his recovery and on his intensive vocal rehabilitation.  I also intend for this to help mitigate any unforeseen medical and/or rehabilitation costs.

For those of you who are in town, we will be having a benefit for John at The American Foundry on Sunday, August 5th from 12-5pm.  We will be selling Chicken BBQ Dinners for $10/plate and there will be live music and other activities.  Tickets can be purchased locally at Old City Hall, The American Foundry, the river's end bookstore & Stone Creek Golf Club.

John began his musical journey in Oswego, NY in the fall of 2003 while attending SUNY Oswego.  Since that time, he has made thousands of appearances; from open mics, to pub and restaurant gigs, to weddings, to fundraisers, to benefits, to festivals, to national stages and beyond.  John has supported and mentored countless musicians and has graciously hosted a weekly open mic at Old City Hall in Oswego for more than a decade.  John has also served as a board member and program director for The Oswego Music Hall (a volunteer non-profit music organization) for more than 3 years.  In 2018 John organized a live music fundraising event called, Music for Mental Health, aimed at helping to lessen the stigma associated with mental illness.  MFMH raised $6,000 for NAMI Syracuse (the regional branch of The National Alliance on Mental Illness).  The second annual MFMH event has been scheduled for January 12th, 2019 at The American Foundry in Oswego.
