Help Joe move to Kentucky to earn his PhD!
As some of you may have heard, my brother, Joseph Barry, has officially accepted an offer to attend the University of Kentucky to earn his PhD in Educational Sciences. His research will be aimed to improve educational experiences for marginalized communities. He has been approved for admission, on-campus family housing and has a paid internship in the works.
This program opportunity came just recently with a quick deadline for acceptance, giving Joe little time to organize logistics.
This is such a great opportunity that Joe has earned. He has always been one of the hardest working, motivated and inspiring people in my life. Anyone who knows him knows that this is what he is passionate about. Here are some of his accomplishments on the way to enrolling in this program:
Associates Degree - Sacramento City College (2001)
Bachelor of Arts, Intercultural Communication - Sacramento State University (2010)
Master of Arts, Disability Studies - Baptist University (2013)
EDD Candidate, ABD (All but Dissertation) - Sacramento State University (currently)
Intern for CA Civic Engagement Project CCEP - UC Davis (2014-2017)
Along with his educational accomplishments he has also been active in his community as:
Vice President of DOGFITE (Disability Organizing Group for Initiating Total Equality) since 2013
Officer of Sacramento RIL (Resources for Independent Living) Board since 2013
City Council Candidate (2018)
Joe is quick to stand up for what he believes in and is always working to accomplish his goals and help others along the way.
Now, I’m hoping we can pull together and help him. His move in date is August 23rd and because of the immediacy of the offer he will not be able to take along most of his belongings and has had little time to set aside some of the necessary funds. The goal of this GoFundMe is to help him raise money to pay for:
Flight ($500)
First Month Housing Rent & Initial Deposit ($2,000)
Necessities once they arrive ie- pots, pans, silverware, toiletries etc.($500)
