Help Jobo get surgery & flown home to the UK!

Please help our dear friend Jonathan ‘JoBo’ Barteluk who has had a SERIOUS motor accident while travelling in Bali. His travel insurance will not cover surgery (even though a week ago they said they would, leaving him waiting in the hospital for days) which is required urgently in order to save him from long term damage.
To raise the funds needed will take all of our resources to pull together and make this happen, but for those of you who have ever been lucky enough to meet Jobo then we’re sure you will spare whatever you can. If you have been unfortunate enough not to have crossed paths with him, then know he is one of the most beautiful souls on this planet; an incredibly kind, easy going, friendly, decent and pure of vibe man with nothing but love to give. Please help us heal this wonderful human!
WHY HE NEEDS YOUR HELP URGENTLY…
Jobo has been injured extensively in this accident. His bones are so shattered in his face he has been only on liquids since it happened, and if surgery doesn’t happen soon his jaw may fuse together meaning they’ll have to break it open to operate and this could result in permanent visual / physical damage. His arm is also broken in multiple places and he is in a LOT of pain.
Sadly the doctors in Bali won’t commence treatment until payment has been received, meaning we need to pull funds together VERY quickly to save him and get him home. Only once these initial surgeries are done can he fly back to the UK for the other surgeries he needs and the necessary further hospital treatment/healing.
As he was only travelling on a 30 day visa, it ALSO means he needs to have the op and recovery time BEFORE 3rd July (he has requested an extension from the Consulate but it is not guaranteed).
The initial surgeries are to fix the bones in Jobo’s arm which needs multiple screws and considerable facial bone realignment around his eye. His elbow also needs reducing so it sits right. He will then get his eye further operated on/fixed back home in the UK, only once he has had these initial operations and is issues a ‘fit to fly’ certificate.
We apologise for the graphic photo, Jobo initially didn't even want to show us this so as not to scare us - but its important to know the seriousness of the injuries!
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED…
Jobo recently moved to Australia for a year, but had this accident on a short trip to Bali. While driving home at night on his scooter on a very dark, barely-lit rural road back to where he was staying in Ubud, he swerved to avoid a dog that was sleeping in the road and didn’t see an oncoming bend. Not being able to stop in time, and struggling to see on the dark road he lost control of his bike, ploughing through a barrier into a rice field, landing arm first quickly followed by his face. Traumatically he had to scream and try and get help from the side of the road for hours until someone eventually stopped and took him to the hospital.
WHY WON’T INSURANCE COVER IT…
Even though Jobo organised insurance before his trip, they have recently informed him his claim is void. Firstly, he’s had to go to 3 different hospitals because insurance wouldn’t cover the first two private clinics. Secondly, even though they had ALL his information/driving licence info within 2 days, a week later they have now said that because he didn’t do a specific scooter driving course in the UK his insurance is not valid. His driving license allows him to drive a scooter and so he had no idea he needed this course. They also let him believe for 5 days that he would be covered, only later retracting it - which has only added to the cost of his treatment and potentially the seriousness of his condition.
WHAT WILL YOUR MONEY GO TOWARDS….
All funds raised will go directly to JoBo’s family to make relevant transfers with a portion being used for repatriation and necessary medical assistance during his flight.
More specifically, Jobo needs this money to cover:
- Transfer to main hospital in Bali AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
- Two initial surgeries on his arm and eye in Bali so that hopefully no permanent damage is done other than extensive scarring
- Daily cost of being in hospital in Bali up until now and for the next few weeks
- Flight back to the UK
