Jimmy set out months ago to do the IronMan Race in honor of his grandmother, Marilyn Ross, who passed away due to heart disease. Marilyn, AMMA, was Jimmy’s world and was always there to cheer him on. I can remember all the years Jimmy played youth football, she would be at every game and would be the loudest spectator...yelling “THAT’S MY BOY”. Jimmy was her “BEST BUDDY” as she would say, they were inseparable This race means the world to Jimmy, it’s his way of raising awareness to heart disease and honor his AMMA at the same time.
Jimmy had a major set back. He was beyond devastated, on July 8 when he broke his collarbone in an unforeseen incident which he did not cause. What made it even worse was that it was his right shoulder, he is right handed. Thru x-rays we found that the collarbone was broken in 4 places and had pieces that were scattered. Doctor said surgery was really his only option because of the way the bones were over lapping, more than 1.5 cm, Doctor said it would not heal properly and he would have permanent shoulder problems if he let it heal on its own. Surgery was the only option to promote proper and complete healing. Jimmy finally had surgery on July 11. Not only could Jimmy not train anymore but he was also out of work (self-employed), it hit him hard all the way around. This was a very trying time for Jimmy not being able to work and also not being able to move toward his IronMan goal. If you know Jimmy he has the heart of gold and it is not just about another race, this is about honoring his grandmother. He told me from the beginning...”Mom, nothing is going to stop me”. Well with determination, an AMAZING mind set and his perseverance, he fought thru everything that was thrown his way. On Monday, August 27, the doctor gave MEDICAL CLEARANCE WITH NO RESTRICTIONS, which now means he can continue training for his IronMan Race on September 30.
Jimmy is ready for his challenge.
