The Story
Earlier this week my partner Jerias experienced a sudden and unexpected medical emergency. With no prior history, she suffered a severe episode of seizures which nearly killed her. She was left unconscious and unable to breathe. Luckily I was with her and able to perform first aid until paramedics arrived.
She was hospitalized for nearly a week, had to be completely sedated with a breathing tube and on life support machines, along with numerous other medical interventions.
Doctors were able to determine what they think was the root cause of the incident. A hormonal drug being prescribed to her by her endocrinologist was affecting her electrolytes and hormones. Her levels of sodium were lethally low and the doses of one of her prescriptions was so obscenely high that it caused her body to become toxic. This was especially concerning considering it was being supervised and prescribed to her by a medical professional.
Why We Need Help
She was in ICU for about 4 days, and her total hospital stay was nearly a week. She has insurance in Oregon but this happened in Washington, so she will be faced with numerous co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses. Also the physical and mental trauma of nearly dying has left her unable to work to support herself as she rests and regains her strength.
Your donations will help us pay the medical costs not covered by her insurance, as well as support her living costs until she regains her strength and can work again. She also does not have a vehicle and donations will help with transportation as she needs help getting to numerous medical check-ups scheduled for her.
It's very hard for either of us to ask for help and reach out when we need it. We are both fairly stubborn and independent, and we know our friends, family, and community are all struggling to make do right now. This is the first time either of us have made a fundraiser or asked our community for this sort of help. Your donations will enable the most loving and kind-hearted person I know to get back up on her feet and regain a sense of stability after such a traumatizing event nearly took everything from her.
