Istiron Sinani was born in Albania 14 years ago and suffers from cortical cerebral atrophy.
For those who do not know what it is, it is serious damage that affects the brain. During delivery, the umbilical cord was wrapped around the neck and, due to medical negligence, Istiron suffered a brain injury that left him in a coma in the first two weeks of life and with permanent damage to the brain.
Istiron has undergone many rehabilitation therapies, in the country where he now lives with his family, Italy, but only recently he has been able to travel with his mother in the United States, to consult the doctors of Columbia Hospital and get their valuable opinion.
We now know that in New York he would have the opportunity to undergo treatment and therapies that would make his life easier, but not by eliminate the damage caused at birth. To begin this long and salvific rehabilitation process, Istiron needs eye surgery to finally coordinate and use them both correctly, regaining the ability to see what surrounds him. The doctors at the Columbia Hospital claim that Istiron needs to receive all these medical treatments in their country.

Per coloro i quali non sapessero di cosa si tratti, è un danno serio che colpisce il cervello. Durante il parto, il cordone ombelicale si è avvolto attorno al collo e, a causa della negligenza medica, Istiron ha subito un'importante sofferenza che lo ha lasciato in coma nelle due prime settimane di vita e con un danno permanente al cervello.
Istiron è stato sottoposto a tante terapie di riabilitazione, nel paese in cui oggi vive con la sua famiglia, l'Italia, ma solo recentemente ha potuto viaggiare con la sua mamma negli Stati Uniti, per consultare i medici del Columbia Hospital ed ottenere il loro prezioso parere.
Ora sappiamo che a New York avrebbe l'occasione di essere sottoposto a cure e terapie che gli renderebbero la vita più facile, pur tuttavia non eliminando il danno causato alla nascita. Per iniziare questo lungo e salvifico percorso riabilitativo, Istiron ha bisogno di un intervento chirurgico agli occhi per poterli finalmente coordinare ed utilizzare correttamente entrambi, riacquistando la capacità di vedere ciò che lo circonda. I dottori dell'Ospedale della Columbia University affermano che Istiron ha bisogno di ricevere tutte queste cure mediche nel loro paese.
