Help Holly Beat Lyme Disease
I'm Holly, and in the last two weeks I've had a major relapse of chronic Lyme Disease that has me unable to work. I make my sole income through freelance design and writing, and when I can't work, I have no income, unfortunately. The treatment I require to get better is also not covered by my insurance, nor are most of the medicines and supplements I need for treatment. So, I need help with medical funds, living expenses, and business obligations to get through these next few months and back to much better health.
What I need to get through these next three months:
- Immediate funds for medical treatment not covered by insurance. I'm looking at IV therapy with a Lyme Disease specialist twice a week for six weeks, and once a week for the next six weeks after. This treatment will help me get back to a health equilibrium.
- Immediate funds to cover medications and supplements that are not covered by insurance.
- Immediate funds to cover mental health expenses. Lyme Disease comes with an intense mental health component, and this treatment, along with the physical treatment, is absolutely essential.
- Funds to cover living expenses the next three months and freelance business expenses that I can't otherwise cancel or back out of.
- Funds to refund projects I have currently contracted with clients so I can clear my schedule for treatment and recovery.
All of this adds up to around $8500. Everything I have has gone to medical treatment at the start of this health crisis, so my need for funds to continue treatment and meet basic expenses is urgent.
Any and all funds toward this help with my recovery, and allow me to rest out this process and heal a lot quicker so I can get back to helping people with their design projects, and doing what I love best: living a full and happy life!
With Lyme Disease, recovery isn't always (or usually ever) a straight trajectory, either--any funds over and above the goal I'll use if I need more time to recover, or set aside to help when I have gaps where I can't work for a few weeks and need the extra funds to get more treatment.
Thank you so much for your help! Your support means the world to me!
I have an update on what's been going on, and I'm needing a quick burst of help again if possible.
The short version: I have grant funds coming in a few weeks that will help me for the next few months, but in the meantime I have a gap in funds and my health is suffering because I don't have access to treatment or medications I need without these funds.
The longer version:
First off, thanks so much again for your generosity! I would not have made it through the end of last year without your help, and I'm truly, truly grateful! <3
My treatment was going pretty well, with slow but steady improvement. I was derailed by getting the flu full force in December for a month, and I've only just mostly recovered. (Flu on top of chronic illness can be really, really tricky and dangerous.) This set my treatment back quite a bit, and tapped out the funds I'd allotted to carry me through January, unfortunately, as I needed quite a few more doctor visits to tailor my flu treatment to what I already have going on with Lyme. As a result of this setback, too, I've had to cancel most of the work I'd moved to the first few months of 2019, which leaves me with little or no income for the next few months. It will be a longer road ahead, unfortunately.
The good news is that I DO have grant funding coming to help me through the first few months of this year. The bad news is, I don't have it in hand yet.
I'm in pretty urgent need of around $500 so I can get my next Lyme treatment, as well as afford the medications around it for this month. Without this treatment and medications, my health and recovery will suffer, and it's already taken a turn downward the longer I've been delaying the next treatment for lack of funds. I don't, unfortunately, know when the grant funding will come through (though it should be in the next few weeks at most)--but I'm very much in need of this treatment now to keep my health on the right track and moving upward.
If anyone would be willing to share this campaign again, I'd be so, so grateful. I know I've already asked a lot, and I thank you so much for that help. I was hoping not to have to ask more with the extra funding coming in, but I need help to cover this temporary gap.
Whatever you are comfortable with, thank you for any and all help! I am truly, again, grateful! <3
Big update! I passed the halfway mark with funds (thank you all so, so much!) and also received some grant money through a professional writing organization to help with medical funds, too. I'm around 3/4 to where I need for the rest of the year--I still need around $2000-2500, depending on how treatment goes and any extra medical expenses that come up--but getting so much closer!
Treatment's going well, with ups and downs, but generally upward. I'm still doing IV treatments between 1-2 times a week, and while it's a slow process, it's a very positive one. Among this treatment and basic life expenses, your funds helped me get was a pressure vest, too, which has been greatly helping me de-escalate some of my sensory overload symptoms into a more manageable state so I can function better and better let my body heal. Yay!
While I'm still unable to work, and it looks like that might continue into next year, I'm pursuing grant funds to get more help than I have now. Illness is a long process, and Lyme is often a lot longer than you think it will be at the outset. From where I'm standing now, it's looking like this might be a longer process than I'd thought. But nevertheless, I've come this far! And couldn't have done it at all without your help. <3
If you're able to share the campaign again, I'd super appreciate it! Any and all help is still needed and very much appreciated.
Thank you! <3
I'm almost halfway to my original funding goal--which is enough to cover the next 4-6 weeks or so of treatment and living expenses, depending on how everything goes. I just had my third week of treatment last week, and while it's a bit two steps forward, one step back, I'm still making a lot of progress, and the overall trend is upward, so I'm really happy about that!
While my next few weeks are covered (thank you!!!), I do still need to find a way to cover continued treatment and expenses until the end of the year, so if you're able or inclined to share again, I'd super appreciate it! Social media gurus in the family have informed me that the best time to get a post visible is in the morning, if that helps. :) I'm not on social media myself (for health and mental health reasons), and I so appreciate any help to spread the word, and all the help you've already given. None of this would have been possible without you! Thank you! <3
I'll keep checking back in and sharing where I can. If you haven't shared yet, please consider doing so! Every bit helps, and there's a ways to go yet before I'm in the clear. But even now I feel such a weight lifting knowing I'll have funds to get through the next few weeks. I so appreciate the help, and all of you. Thank you!
