Help Hinckley Pottery Thrive!

Rebuilding Hinckley Pottery continues...

The first time Jill Hinckley touched clay, she knew she had found a lifelong love. And so, Hinckley Pottery was born. In the 50 years since, Jill has introduced many thousands of people to the magic of turning mud into functional objects. She has been assisted by several generations of teachers, apprentices, work-study aides and volunteers and has built a community of pottery lovers – affectionately called weirdos – who have ranged in age from 9 to 90 and have come from across the U.S. and all over the world.

Our move to Georgetown – after 25 years in Adams Morgan – is a success thanks to the generous support of friends and strangers who helped us survive two years of serious setbacks and landlord-related issues. These difficulties caused Hinckley Pottery to be shuttered for more than a year.  Being closed for so long took a heavy toll on us and we are now working hard to recover.

Yet even after our troubled move, and at 81 years old, Jill is still going strong, enticing new converts to the enchanting world of clay.  She and the studio have rightly become treasured local institutions.

As we continue to rebuild our student base, we need your support.

Ways you can help...

• Donate to our scholarship fund
You can assist needy students with their fees. A $200 gift would provide a 50% discount for one student for one session of classes, or a 25% discount for two. Our goal of $30,000 would support up to 60 students for a year of classes.
Goal:  $30,000

 • Give the gift of pottery to someone you love
Vogue magazine says "Pottery is the new yoga."
The fee of $400 for a 10-week session (a two-and-a-half-hour class each week) covers instruction, clay and materials, use of tools and equipment, glazes and firing. Classes are offered on an on-going basis.
Goal:  25 new students
