Help Hank Battle Cancer

MY DAD, HANK LYLE, NEEDS YOUR HELP TO PAY FOR CANCER TREATMENT AND BILLS.

In late June I took my dad, Hank Lyle, to the ER for severe abdominal pain and blood in his urine. The doctor came back with the terrible news that he had severe kidney cancer, stage 4. He had to have surgery immediately to remove the tumor (which took up his entire kidney) as well as the thrombus (blood clot) that grew from his kidney up into his heart.

Since then, the road to recovery has been more like an obstacle course—he’s been to the ER twice, had abdominal swelling from fluid buildup that needs to be drained, which is costly, and because he’s been unable to work, the bills have been piling up. He has some potentially cancerous nodules in his lungs that spread from the kidney cancer, which require costly treatments.

Yesterday (11/23), I took him to the ER because he was barely able to move and had trouble breathing. He’s stable now, and all we know is that he’s been bleeding internally. He only had 4.5 pints of blood in his body, while the average person should have 11.

My dad is the strongest person I know. Before he got sick, I used to tell people that he was the youngest person I know, despite becoming a father (to me) at 45. He would go to the gym twice a week and work out. He designs and builds furniture and cabinets, but has been unable to work.

He’s one of the people I love most in the world; I grew up with a love for art, nature, and milkshakes because of him. He used to braid my hair because he had long hair in the 70s. I’ve lived with him for the past 2 ½ years and most nights were spent cooking, watching TV, and laughing together. Everyone he knows loves him for his sense of humor, lightheartedness, and open-mindedness.

The point of saying all this is that he’s hurting and needs help, and he is so deserving of help. The doctors are doing what they can to treat him, but besides that, the help he needs is financial. He needs to pay for tests, medications, treatment, debt from the surgery, rent, food, etc. Please donate to help.

If you can’t afford to donate right now, please share this link or keep him in your thoughts and prayers. My dad is a big advocate for the power of prayer, and I know it would make him feel so happy to know that people out there are caring about him and thinking about him. THANK YOU to everyone that has supported him during this difficult time—you’ve made such a positive impact.
