Help GSU's Colony become a Chapter!

Fall Semester in 2013, a young man  was on a mission to become part of a fraternity at Georgia State University. Because of his sexual orientation, he was nervous as to how he would be received at the fraternities existing on campus. He wanted to be in a fraternity where he could feel comfortable with another group of men. After investigating, he decided to start his own. After much research, he found Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity founded by a gay man for all men. After receiving information from the global fraternity, he began to advertise for an interest group, getting the attention of his Residence Advisor.

The interest group attracted many people, signalling to the young man that he was not alone in wanting this type of fraternity. The interest group knew there was a lot to do in order to be recognized by both Delta Lambda Phi and Georgia State University. After all interested members did their part, we as the interest group sent the petition to the International Fraternity Office, hoping for the best. In the meantime, we began the process of forming a brotherhood.

On October 27, 2014, the expansion committee at Georgia State University called DLP to send a representative down on November 4th to represent DLP.  The meeting went well, and on December 2nd, 2014, Delta Lambda Phi was asked to expand at GSU starting spring 2015.

On February 7th, 2015, Eleven individuals were inducted into the alpha class as pledges. We worked hard to learn all of history of Delta Lambda Phi and what it means to be a Lambda man. Follwing spring semester, the work of planning Rush and how to conduct ourselves resulted in a retreat over the Summer, and a plan of action was formed. On September 12, 2015, the Georgia State Colony of Delta Lambda Phi inducted nine members to be part of Beta-Corcoran pledge class.

The colony continues to grow, and our Delta-Thompson pledge class has been inducted. Our sustainability has been proven, and we are ready to be examined once again by the Fraternity and the University. Your donation can help us make that a reality.

The fraternity has three purposes: the first is to develop dignified and purposeful social, service, and recreational activities for all men, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender expression; to lead in determining the rights and privileges of individuals in society; and, to present a strong and positive image which respects the diversity of all individuals.

As a major research university in an urban setting, Georgia State University is the perfect place for us. The commitment to diversity and justice makes Delta Lambda Phi a natural fit. In order to ensure our place in the community, both within Georgia State and Atlanta, we need the recognition that comes with being a fully chartered organization. We need the money you donate to go towards our chartering petition, due December 1, 2016.

We have already been making inroads in the community, we have partnered with Project Open Hand, raised money through AIDSWalk Atlanta, and more. There's so much more we can do, but only if we charter. With students majoring in psychology, film, education, nursing, business, and journalism, the Georgia State University colony has only begun to explore our potential to change the lives of gay, bisexual, and progressive men in Atlanta and beyond.

Your donation would mean the world to us, and we thank you in advance! Any donations we might receive above our goal will go towards helping with operating costs.
