Help Greg Miles Move Mountains

Our Brother, Your Friend
Greg Miles is an amazing man.   An extremely talented artist/painter, he has been able to support himself with sales of his paintings, and by creating an art gallery and framing business in downtown Estes Park.   His gallery, The Studio Fine Art & Framing , is a bright spot inside and out for all those who visit - and is a showcase for local artists.

Greg was also instrumental in creating the Estes Arts District - an organization promoting the arts in this lovely mountain village that he has called home for twenty years now - and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.   He is credited with starting and growing the First Friday Art Groove - a monthly art walk - where patrons and arts enthusiasts visit galleries and shops in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

In addition to being an accomplished artist, Greg is also a passionate musician and is involved in several music-related events around town, and was instrumental in creating the  local Friends of Folk Festival, honoring the late Dick Orleans.  He started the Thursday Night Bluegrass Jam in Estes Park back in 2002, and has played banjo in local  bluegrass favorites ReinTarnation since 2001,  as well as jazz cornet/trumpet with the local dixieland band, The Riverside Ramblers . . .  He has freely given of his time and talents to different arts-related events for many years now.

And Now He Needs Your Help
On May 31st of this year, in a freak accident at his gallery, a piece of glass he was handling shattered, with a large shard hitting his left leg just above his ankle, cutting it to the bone and severing his Achilles tendon.  With his usual aplomb, he drove himself to the local ER and ended up in emergency surgery where the surgeon attempted to reattach this crucial tendon.

approximately 10 days after the accident

This marked the beginning of a long and tortuous healing journey - which is far from over.  The laceration is in a part of the body that doesn't have great circulation, and the wound has been slow to heal.   He has had a wound vac (negative pressure wound therapy) for 2 1/2 months; has wound care at the hospital every other day, and must  undergo daily IV infusions of antibiotics for weeks.  Back in early August, he was hospitalized with a bad infection, and they then learned that the surgical repair of the Achilles had failed; that the tendon was no longer viable and never again would be.   He is facing several surgeries - the next being a tissue transplant & skin grafting, just to heal the horrendous wound.  Once the wound is healed, the next step will be to refashion a new tendon using a tendon from another part of his body (a modified FHL transfer, for you medical people).   It is a 15 month process before he will be able to walk again without assistance . . .

What You Can Do
Greg is, as he puts it, "a one-man show."  Needless to say, he can barely walk on the injured leg, and endures a terrific amount of pain.  His ability to work at his business is absolutely nil.  As we all know, especially you entrepreneurs, no work = no income

This is where the beauty of a community and network of friends shines;  to collectively or individually help out a friend in need.

Greg has been "self-pay" for years, but this injury has cleaned out his stores . . .  so to help him meet basic expenses, we're asking for your help.  No donation is too small; any amount can do so much - the greatest being relieving his stress about meeting his financial obligations - so crucial to facilitate healing!

And if you're local, or visiting the area, take him a meal, or offer to go to the grocery store, or do his laundry - these small acts of kindness - all morale boosters - will do so much for him, and you.
