Who We Are
Our team of 4 (6th & 7th graders) is based in Aurora/Naperville, Illinois. We are part of Fox Valley Robotics, and this is our 3rd year doing FIRST Lego League (FLL). We first competed this season at our regional qualifying tournament in Palatine. At that event we won the Robot Design Award, as well as 2nd place in Robot Performance. These awards allowed us to move on to the the state championship for the second year in a row. We went on to win the Judges Award: Excellence in Project, and Global Innovation Award Nominee at the Illinois State Championship on January 20th. Out of over 200 Global Innovation Award Nominees from around the world, we were selected as an alternate team. This is a huge accomplishment as only 20 teams will attend the Semi-Finals this June in San Jose, CA.
Why are We Raising Money?
Our team is honored to be the only team in Illinois (of over 600 teams) to be invited to the FIRST® LEGO® League Asia Pacific Open Championship. This is a four-day event in Sydney, Australia in July. We need to raise money to pay for airfare, hotel, event registration & rental cars. Some costs will need to be paid right away, while others will be paid during the trip. We have 4 team members and 2 coaches to get there which will cost over $2,000 per member! We are excited to give our team an experience of a lifetime.
And what is FIRST Lego League?
FIRST LEGO League is an international program with over 40,000 teams, created by FIRST® and LEGO®, designed to get children interested in and excited about science, technology and engineering. Every year, FIRST releases a new challenge that engages the teams in four parts: project idea, robot building, programming, and core values. The challenge this year was “Into Orbit”, which focuses on solving problems humans face during long term space travel.
