Furry Friends Animal Shelter has just been told that at the end of JUNE, our lease will not be renewed and we will be forced to secure a new location for our shelter and roughly 100 feline residents.
We are a charity that runs solely on volunteer work and rely on the kindness and generosity of the public to support us caring for our cats with their dedication and donations, so this is a huge and terrifying time for us!
I've been authorized to make this GoFundMe on behalf of Furry Friends Animal Shelter by Furry Friend's founder and owner, Marie Aldred, with my position as Fundraising Coordinator.
The Furry Friends Animal Shelter is a Non-profit, no-kill organization that has been helping save the lives of thousands of abandoned, lost, injured, sick, and otherwise unfortunate cats in the Barrie area and beyond for the past eight years in our current location, and for 26 years since our shelter's creation!
We are a registered charity (#882610124), funded by generous donors and supporters and operated completely by dedicated volunteers.
We work tirelessly to find a home for every cat who comes through our doors, and provide a permanent place to live in our shelter and foster residents for those who aren't ready for their Forever Homes just yet.
We support our dozens of foster families with their furry friends until they feel their fosters are ready to move to either our in-shelter adoption area, or for two weeks every month our cats and kittens can also be adopted at PetSmart, 33 Mapleview Drive East, Barrie, Ontario.
July 1st, 2011, the Furry Friends Animal Shelter moved to 25 Hart Drive, Unit #15, Barrie, Ontario. We currently house around 100 cats in our shelter, who on top of receiving dedicated care and love on a daily basis, will need to move with us to our new location.
Our goal of $200,000 will go towards first and foremost securing a new location to move our resident kitties to, and to continue our life saving work of rescuing and re-homing cats.
Once our funding goal is reached, or once our time runs out and we come as close as we are possible, all funds donated will be withdrawn and immediately given to Marie Aldred to put towards moving costs such as trucks and moving companies, legal fees, transportation for our roughly 100 feline companions as well as our supplies, furniture and cages, and for the costs of renovations that the new location will need to ensure the safety and comfort of both our cats and volunteers. For our current location, renovations alone were around $20,000 and included painting every wall and floor with easy-to-clean safety paint, adding in a much needed washroom, and electric work. We will also be needing to outfit a room or area of the new building to serve as our dedicated medical room for our sick or recovering kitties.
We provide high quality food and medical care, and have compassionate volunteers who work one-on-one with our cats who need a little extra help coming around to people. Our teams come in twice a day to feed, sanitize, socialize, and love up every kitty at the shelter. It's a big job, but a rewarding one!
A little under four months is not a lot of time to raise this large of an amount of money, so we are desperately hoping that with the support of our community and fellow animal lovers, that will we be able to get the funds we need to find our OWN FOREVER HOME!
We will be hosting multiple fundraisers to help raise money between now and our end-of-lease date, and we will be sure to give you all the details.
