Imagine if…
- You had 9 rounds of complex IVF
- 8 IVF cycles later, the result was 4 miscarriages and 4 non implantations
- Just over halfway through this process, you lost your Dad to cancer
- You finally become parents to twin boys, on your 9th and final try of IVF but they tragically pass away.
We have started this page to raise money to fund surrogacy for our friend Nicola and her husband Marc. You might find the above hard to imagine but this is their reality. Nic and Marc are just an ordinary couple, they both have jobs, work very hard and live in a small town outside London with two cats.
They started trying for a baby in 2013 and after a while of not conceiving, were told the only option was IVF. From that point, they underwent 8 IVF cycles with 4 non implantations, 4 miscarriages and 5 babies lost. Midway through all of this, Nicola’s Dad became ill with Cancer and sadly passed away after round 6 of their IVF journey – when they’d just lost twins at 11 weeks.
Nicola and Marc decided to give it one last shot and threw every last penny on their 9th and final round of IVF. Their quest to become parents paid off when Charlie and Ellis Fletcher were born on 6th July 2018.
Tragically they lost their beautiful twin boys after being delivered at 24 weeks. Charlie passed away 10 hours after birth while his brother, Ellis fought for 4 weeks and 3 days, when it was discovered that he was severely brain damaged after one of his two lifesaving operations had starved him of oxygen. Nic and Marc went home the same day after staying in the hospital flats. They planned a funeral for the boys, who were laid to rest with her Dad.
The past 5 and a half years have seen them buy a small family home, save for expensive and invasive tests, pay for 9 rounds of IVF, travel miles to clinics in London and Greece to pursue the best treatment. They have spent £125,000 so far on treatment alone and now the only option to add to their family is via a surrogate, again at a great expense.
This is just a fraction of their story and there is so much more that we could tell you. Not only are they dealing with unimaginable loss, they are also under huge financial pressure again; saving everything that they don’t have, working overtime and going without – all while grieving their two sons.
Their positivity and strength has been breathtaking; helplessly watching our lovely friends go through this has been horrendous, so we are asking from the bottom of our hearts for anything that you can spare, to ease this financial stress, when they are already going through so much.
The money raised will be going towards fees for a fresh cycle of IVF treatment and medications, cycle syncing, egg collection, legal bills (they will have to legally 'adopt' the child after birth even though it will biologically be theirs), counselling for both parties and maternity costs for the surrogate as you cannot pay someone for surrogacy in this country.
