Help Fund for Colton's Handicap Van

Donation protected
Well, the time has come, the time for me to ditch the car and become a soccer mom. After receiving Colton's new wheelchair last November, and just after one attempt to fit it in the trunk of my car, I realized that it was time for a handicap van. The new chair is unbelievably heavy, I know this because I threw my back out after that one lift into the trunk, but also it is too big and does not fit well. Colton has grown out of his current wheelchair, so this van is something we will need to purchase ASAP. Colton will as well soon be the recipient of his very own power wheelchair, hopefully by the end of the year (fingers crossed), so a van is in our near future I just didn't think it would be needed this soon.  After researching handicap vans and then looking up dealers in our area, I came to realize that, A: even used ones are crazy expensive, and B: I cannot afford one. As most of you know, I do not work so that I can take care of Colton 24/7. For the folks that do not know about Colton's disability, he is my four-year-old son who has severe Quadrapalegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy. Basically what that means is,  he cannot physically function on his own making him completely dependent on a wheelchair and the assistance of others. Colton has made some huge changes over the past four years and has accomplished so much. Some of which can be attributed to the time and care I can give to him all day every day, but also to his incredible will to overcome the challenges he has been given. Presently, it is in Colton's best interest for me to give up working to care for him, but because of that, my ability to buy an expensive van such as this is quite difficult. I have started this Go Fund Me in hopes to take some of the financial burdens off of the family and put it towards a down payment on a used handicap van. Anything helps and is sincerely appreciated by Bill and Myself, but especially Colton! ** UPDATE** As I'm sure you are all aware by now, we have had a tough week/few months. We got into a little accident last weekend while taking Colton up to the mountains to go sledding. We never got to sled and unfortunately totaled my car... Thankfully everyone was ok.   The unfortunate part of all this is that my vehicle was not covered by insurance and has created a huge financial burden for us. On top of that, Bill is currently in between work, so he no longer has a company car.  Now that we are down to zero cars the urgency to purchase a van is even more significant.  So, because all this has happened, the option to afford/finance a handicap van is out of reach for now. Right now, we are on the hunt for a used unmodified van in hopes to either modify or trade in for a modified van in the future.  We will probably be purchasing a van in the next week, and the reason I wanted to inform everyone who has donated to Colton's fundraiser is to keep you all updated on what is going on with the money you have gifted. While I do not know when we will be getting a handicap van, I want everyone to know that the money you have donated will not be used until that happens. We have it saved in a special account that will only be used for its intended purpose. The plan is now, to purchase a regular van and get an aftermarket ramp for the trunk so that I can get Colton's new wheelchair in and out without hurting my back.  With all that said, I am going to continue to keep this campaign open for future donations, as we will eventually be getting a handicap van in the near future so please continue to share this with your family and friends!  Thank you so much everyone for your continued support!    Thank You! - Bill, Nicole, and Colton
