Help Frannie Study Nursing in Kenya

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Frannie Weiland, and I am a junior nursing student in Lander University's Honors College, located in Greenwood, South Carolina. In order for the Honors College to produce competitive, global scholars, it is a requirement for students to have at least one study abroad experience. For my experience, I was presented with the AMAZING opportunity to study nursing among healthcare professionals in Nunyuki, Kenya, about 200 kilometers north of Nairobi. This program would allow me to travel between departments of the local hospital (maternity, general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, or in the laboratory), specialize in a department, work with mental health patients, and perform skills that a nursing student in North America would not have the opportunity to do.

Since I am required to take all of my nursing courses at Lander University during the fall and spring semesters, I can only take advantage of this program during the summer when financial aid and scholarships do not apply. Although I would love to just jump on the first plane to Kenya,  I know I don't have the funds or means to do so. Coming from a single parent home, I exclusively rely on academic scholarships and financial aid to fund my college tuition for the fall and spring. To make this study abroad experience happen, I'm going to need some help. And that's where you can come in!

I plan on making the trip during July. As of right now, a rough breakdown of costs includes:
- passport/visa fees (approximately $300)
-extra scrubs to take (since laundry may be limited)
-emergency money

I'm not typically the type to ask for help, but this experience would mean the WORLD to me. Helping others is my passion, and having the opportunity to serve God's people abroad and learn different skill sets would make me a valuable asset to any healthcare team. My mom always told me that watching me succeed was like winning  her own personal Super Bowl, and I'd really like to make her a two-time champ.

I've already covered the cost for the program itself, so now we're in the home stretch. ANY donation, whether $5 or $20, means more to me than I would ever be able to verbalize.
