Turning 50 should be a time for celebration, a significant milestone, a time of joy. This year, however, on Blaine’s Pickett’s 50th birthday, he and his family received some heartbreaking news. He was diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer that has metastasized and spread to his brain. This devastating news has come as quite a shock to friends and family. His future course of chemotherapy and radiation will be expensive and debilitating.  Blaine is the father of two incredible teen daughters, Megan 13 and Jocelyn 16. His wife Courtney, a teacher, is now faced with being a full time care taker as well as the family’s main source of income.

Although insurance will help, it does not come close to covering the cost of treatment and loss of income due to illness. Your donations will help pay for medical bills and basic needs.

We want the Pickett family to know they are not alone. There is a caring community out there wanting to help. Even the smallest donation is greatly appreciated. Together we can make a difference for this beautiful family. Please help if you can and share this link with others.

Dear Friends,
We have some good news to share. Recently doctors have determined that Blaine’s cancer can be controlled for now. For the past few weeks Blaine has been taking a medication that has helped to lessen many of his symptoms. Doctors do not know for sure how long it will work. It will depend on how well his body responds to the medication, but doctors are optimistic that the cancer can be managed for several years on this medication. He will be doing check-up MRIs every three months. The next MRI will be very telling as to the effectiveness of the medication. In the meantime, Blaine is feeling much better. He still tires easily, however, he has been able to return to work, ride his bike and get back to doing some of the things he loves to do. According to the doctors, he should be able to have a fully functioning life if the medication continues to work. Regular visits to the doctor and daily medication is now the new norm for Blaine, but he has a renewed sense of hope and feels encouraged. Thank you so much for your continued love and support. The family is extremely grateful.

Dear Friends,
We wanted to let you all know that Blaine has finished his first round of radiation treatments. Blaine said today that he had a great day and almost felt normal. His energy is up, and appetite is improved at the moment. Yesterday he even walked around in the backyard in the beautiful sunshine and did some easy-going exercises. The Picketts are so grateful for all of the love and support.

Dear Friends,
We can’t even begin to explain how grateful we are for your overwhelming generosity. The Picketts are absolutely astonished at the outpouring of support from friends, family and the kindness of strangers. It is amazing how much we have raised in less than 24 hours. It feels like a small miracle and a true testament to human kindness.
After collecting more information, we quickly realized that our original goal was far too low. We have raised our goal to $20,000. Truth be told, we are hoping to raise as much as possible and maybe even surpass this goal.
When we spoke to Courtney today, she informed us that Blaine was overcome with emotion and deeply moved by all of the love and support. As to be expected, he is exhausted and worried, but your support has really raised his spirits.
Tomorrow Blaine will start his first round of treatments. Please keep him in your prayers. We will continue to keep you all updated on how he is doing and responding to treatments. Thank you ALL again so much!
