Gunny Van

My name is Sandra (VanSweringen) Stacy and I live in Columbus, Indiana.  My brother is retired Marine Gunnery Sgt. Howard Lee VanSweringen, or "Gunny Van" as he is called.  The gunny is now at home battling lung carcinoma and in the Hospice Palliative Care Program.  I am starting this Go Fund Me page for him because he has been in the throes of personally paying for 24 hour care in his home that has become more expensive than he can continue to afford and remain in his home.  The goal of $11,000 would allow him to stay at home for another month of in-home 24 hour care instead of being moved to a nursing home facility.  He wants to battle this cancer in his own home and that is all he strives for at this point.  He has fought this long battle over the past year and a half and most of that time was in hospitals and nursing facilities to where he forgot what home really looked like.  He is at his home in Jacksonville, North Carolina and is being cared for by  three caregivers who rotate his care throughout the day and night.  He is confined to his bed because he has no strength in his legs.  He is on constant oxygen and totally dependent upon someone to prepare meals, bathe him, etc.  His mind is strong and he has even been posting to his Facebook page.  Gunny Van has made many friends over the past several years on social media and he has been a source of great encouragement in their daily lives.  Gunny Van and his family would be  forever grateful for any assistance you might be able to provide.
