Help for Disaster Victims -Gambia

Donation protected
HELP-Gambia's mission is to strengthen the resilient capacities of households and reduce their risks and vulnerabilities to climate change impacts and extreme weather events within communities in The Gambia.

HELP-Gambia encourages household savings of their own wealth and further mobilizes additional resources to support the most vulnerable households severely affected by flash flood/windstorms, droughts, etc

As our communities are currently being inundated by extreme weather events during this rainy season, we kindly need your immediate financial/material assistance to;
1. Provide food items to victims within 48hrs of a disaster event.
2. Provide medical assistance to those injured
3. Provide disaster risk reduction training for all households
4. Provide building materials to victims for rebuilding their houses
4. Provide awareness on the importance of household savings for emergency reasons
5. Conduct advocacy on behalf of vulnerable communities
6. Put pressure  on local, regional & national authorities to build resilient infrastructures (e.g. better road, sewers, markets, etc.)
7. Provide psychological and emotion support to victims

The direct beneficairies would be worst affected households in Kiang East District; one of the poorest and the most vulnerable districts in The Gambia. The district has nearly 1000 households; some are already affected and needed support, others need some sort of awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) techniques. While all households need to be sensitized on the importance of saving their own resources for building their own resilient capacities in the future. We think sensitization on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) is relevant for building resilient households and sustainable communities in The Gambia.

I'm a PhD student at the University of Minnesota interested in building the resilient capacities of households against CCA & DRR in developing countries including my own-The Gambia. I'm the Founder and Executive Director of Household Disaster Resilience Project known as HELP-Gambia. At country level, HELP-Gambia is run by a management board of directors, with a volunteer base of at least 100 youth, all competent and dedicated to serving the most vulnerable communities in The Gambia.

In the service of the most vulnerable households, we remain!

Thank you very much for supporting our initiative.

Yours Sincerely
