Help for Cal Hackett

Cal Hackett is a legend and a pioneer in the Washington DC area. Long before  the days of the tv show Soul Train when the nationally syndicated show Dick Clark's American Bandstand was segregated he helped set up the local hit TV show TEENARAMA for DMV's black youth when I was a teen in high school.  He's also remembered for being one of the top religious radio announcers in DC during the days of WUST. Cal would play great music from the greatest gospel artists in the country to our own local independent artists. He supported everyone.  I know he is the part of the reason for me being here today as he gave exposure not only to Howard's Gospel Choir when I was a student, but a young 22 year old writer's music seeking to start in the gospel music industry named Richard Smallwood. He has helped hundreds of others all over the area such as Henry Davis, Robert Fryson and the Voices Supremes, BL and S and the list goes on and on. Known as the "Sunshine Spreader" he helped inspire and bless so many by providing first class and great gospel music to radio's in homes all over the DMV.  He MC'd and promoted concerts featuring artists like Legend Pastor Shirley Caesar, help to spearhead church anniversaries, choir and group anniversaries and other religious fucntions throughout the Nationa's Capitol. He also was influential in starting the first local gospel music TV show, "Spread a Little Sunshine" featuring everyone from local gospel talent to the late Rev James Cleveland and The Hawkins Family.

Cal needs our help. His wife Bessie Hackett has been ill for quite sometime and medical bills have escalated far beyond what health insurance will cover. We are starting this campaign to help supply the finances that he and his wife Bessie need during this difficult time. It is urgent that those of us who can, give whatever amount to help this pioneer and his wife during their time of crisis. No amount is too small. Every little bit helps. Mrs. Hackett is now housed at long term facility Future Care in Reisterstown.  Cal is by her side 24/7, 7days a week.
