We’re reaching out to you because our family has decided to start a GoFundMe for Sara. As most of you are aware, Sara was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on July 31st. Both Sara’s mother and Sara’s aunt died of cancer in their 50s, and this adds an additional level of fear. We have a very small, tight-knit family, and we can’t afford to lose another loved one as important as Sara. She’s the rock and the glue that holds our family together.
Despite Sara’s shocking diagnosis and the scary family history of cancer, we’re staying #SawyerStrong. Both our boys, Jack and Sam, have been rock stars throughout this whole ordeal, and Sara is the strongest person I know. She’s an amazing mother, a wonderful friend to so many people, and I’m so lucky to have her as my best friend and my wife.
Making this obviously difficult time even worse, our health insurance has added a significant amount of additional, unnecessary stress by egregiously denying Sara a critical component of her cancer treatment as prescribed by her oncologist. Simply put, this is a sad and disturbing development. The combination of a cancer diagnosis and the financial pressure inflicted by the insurance company is quite overwhelming. We fear this combination has the potential to weaken our family’s optimism, and we need your help.
