We are humbled and grateful for all the love and care shown to Eranjan and his family. We have decided to end accepting donations through the GO FUND ME website by Wednesday evening.
Eranjan’s mortal remains is planned to depart the US by today; the expenses involved in transporting the body have been covered by cash donations we have received from other friends of Eranjan and patrons of goodwill. For this reason, we have chosen to donate the funds raised from the GoFundMe account, to Eranjan’s wife and two kids. After we have closed all the bank related transactions, the accounts will be published and shared with you all through:
1. The GoFundMe account

3. Physical copies of the accounts that will be made available at the Staten Island Buddhist Vihara.
Brief story about the case:
I know it maybe a little late to add this piece, but with the stress of the whole ordeal, I was unable to introduce who I am, and why I am doing this. Eranjan and I were colleagues in the media field in Sri Lanka, and Eranjan and I became close friends during this time. Eranjan had also become a very close friend of my brother's. About two years ago, we had the fortune to meet again in the US. As soon as Eranjan became sick, I rushed to see him, and took it upon me to look after him in his time of need.
Eranjan got admitted to the hospital about 6 weeks ago where his main issue was that he was finding it difficult to breath, which was later discovered as direct cause of fluid in the lungs. We were also informed that the fluid in the lungs are a secondary symptom of another illness. He had to undergo surgery to remove this water, and wasn't in the best of conditions even after 3 weeks of being in the care of the hospital; he was discharged - though he refused to be - and he returned home. Two hours later, he found it extremely hard to breath again and he was re-admitted to a hospital closer to his home. We then transferred him back to the same hospital he was in, as they knew his history; not many people knew of Eranjan's sickness until this point.They then re-analyzed my friend and found that there was a cancer that had been growing in him, and that it was at it's last stage. It had started off with a lung cancer - mesothelioma - and had spread to his whole body.
When we started the GO FUND ME account, we were in high hopes that Eranjan's family would be able to come and give him the strength he needed to live. We were also unsure of how we would cover the funeral related expenses, if that happened. As is mentioned in the update date 02/05/2019, we will now be using the collected funds to help Eranjan's wife and kids to survive. Eranjan's widowed wife is a single stay at home mother, and now has been burdened with the responsibility to ensure the financial stability of the home. We will be transferring the funds directly from bank account to bank account and ensuring that Eranjan's family will be taken care of. Thank you again for taking the time to be generous and kind towards a family in need.

02/01: Thank you all who have donated. Eranjan has passed away. Unfortunately his family didn't make it in time. We will be using the donations received to ship his body back to Sri Lanka and the funeral expenses. Due to the high cost of these procedures, we will be continuing to accept donations. Thank you once again for all your love and support.

01/24: Eranjan is in critical condition while he battles with metastatic cancer. It is impossible for him to go back to his family in his condition. We are raising funds not only for his medical expenses, but also for his family to come see him at least one last time. Any donations are appreciated. We have a long way to go to reach our goal. Thank you for taking a moment to give your love to Eranjan when he needs it the most. God bless you all.
