Help defend the Canna Kitchen

After seeking approval from the Police and Trading Standards, The Canna Kitchen opened its doors to the public on December 1st 2018. Its mission was to help spread awareness on the power and versatility of the hemp plant, and to normalise it on the high street by combining it with high end food and drink offerings, as well as retail product ranges. The first of its kind in the UK.

On 8th May 2019, and despite previous correspondence with the police, the business was entered by fifteen officers who proceeded to bag up and seize all equipment and legal hemp derived CBD products from the premises. Around £35K worth of equipment and products were taken.

Since this time, the business has been closed. There have been no arrests or charges, but it has been unable to reopen due to the financially crippling nature of 'Operation Kneecap' as the raid was named by Sussex police. The company has since been in a state of limbo, without receiving receipt or notice of return for the items that have been taken, and also without the financial means to continue.

As a result of these events loyal staff have suffered, having received only part of their wages, which was paid to them from the companies last remaining money. There are also mounting costs for rent, rates and other bills that the company are struggling with.

After a massive and overwhelming show of public support for the Canna Kitchen on social media, many called for the set up of a crowd funder, where those who were able to, could contribute to help the revolutionary project get back on its feet and continue serving the people of Brighton. This is the answer to that call.

Any contribution no matter how small is gratefully received. The Canna Kitchen would like to offer the reward of a special four course private dinner to those funders who are able to contribute £50 or more. This will be redeemable on the 10th 11th or 12th July at 19:30pm. We will contact those individuals directly to make the necessary arrangements. (Please leave email addresses).

If you have visited The Canna Kitchen, you know that it is run by individuals who care, and who want to make a difference in people lives. Your financial support at this time would be ever so gratefully received, and will go toward reimbursing hard working staff for their time without pay, and assisting with any potential legal defence that may arise from the police incident on 8th May.

We thank you sincerely in advance for anything that you can contribute, and we hope that we are able to serve you again at The Canna Kitchen.
