Help CPS Principal Rob Croston

Donation protected
Please help CPS Principal Robert Croston overcome Marfan Syndrome, a disorder that has resulted in Rob undergoing multiple heart surgeries and more than 9 weeks in the hospital since September. Marfan Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the body's connective tissue resulting in potentially life-threatening complications of heart and aorta function.  Because of Rob’s health, neither he nor his wife Sheena, a CPS school counselor, have been able to work this school year.

Rob is the beloved principal of Jenner Academy of the Arts, a public elementary school in the former Cabrini-Green neighborhood in Chicago. Under his leadership, Jenner students have made significant gains in attendance, performance, and social-emotional development. His motto -- be the N.E.S.T. (Be Neighborly, Stay Engaged, Be Scholarly, and Use Teamwork) – has energized students, parents, and teachers alike. His big smile, colorful bow ties, and encouraging words are missed everyday in the halls of Jenner.

Although he is only 33, Rob has already been recognized for his inspired leadership and dedicated teaching. He was recently named "Educator of the Year" by the Chicago State University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International. He also received the 2016 Community Service Award from Brothers Standing Together and the Community Advocate Award from the Near North Unity Program. He was also honored to have been designated the 2016 David DeCoursey Fellow in "Leadership Greater Chicago," a leadership development organization that brings together high performing civic leaders to tackle the city's most pressing issues.

Rob received a Masters of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education's School Leadership Program, a Masters in Social Science from the University of Chicago, a Masters in Teaching from Dominican University, and a BA in Political Science and Government from Marquette University. Before serving in CPS, Rob served as a school director for Teach for America and a teacher/academy director for EdisonLearning.

Rob’s wife Sheena has been by his side throughout his many surgeries and extended hospitalization. Sheena also works for CPS as a school counselor at Morrill Elementary School in Englewood.  Sheena received her BA in psychology from Aurora University, a Master of Arts degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, and a Master of Education degree in counseling from DePaul University.

Rob and Sheena are pastors at Crusaders Church.  Together, they lead the children’s ministry. They live in the West Pullman Community in Chicago where they enjoy celebrating their rivalry between Sheena’s Bears and Rob’s Packers.

Rob is not able to return to work at this time so please join us in supporting Team Croston as Rob recovers. Rob and Sheena desperately need our prayers and financial support. Funds will be used to help cover medical and living expenses.

Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support during this time.
