If you know me well, you know that I haven't felt okay for a quite a while. I've wrestled with headaches, lightheadedness, fatigue, depression, and a feeling of steadily increasing malaise for the better part of a year and a half. After finally convincing my doctor something wasn't right, I received an MRI of my brain and neck on April 3rd.
I'll stop and say that if everything goes according to plan, the odds are very good that I'm going to be just fine.
That MRI revealed a golf ball sized tumor in the left central ventricle of my brain. Everything points to it being what's called a central neurocytoma, which is a generally benign growth that calls for removal. It is also incredibly rare, occurring as only .1 percent of all brain tumors. It's been growing for years (anywhere from two to 10, apparently), and has presented itself as most of the symptoms I've been slowed down by.
My operation is this Friday, the 28th, at St. Joseph Hospital. Tests after the procedure will confirm if it is that type of tumor, and if any radiation therapy is required. My prognosis is very good, and I'm very confident in the abilities of the doctor operating on me. I genuinely can't wait to get the bastard out.
This probably brings up lots of worries and questions. Sudhir and Michael Jonathon Reilly, my amazing and generous partners at 715 Club, have arranged a benefit night for me this Tuesday, the 25th. I will be there starting at 8 PM to answer your questions, and give hugs and hi-fives. Really, though, I'll be there to show the positivity I have in fighting off this thing that has bothered me for forever. I can't explain how excited I am to look forward to a future where I can feel normal again.
If you're reading this and cannot be there, know that your positive thoughts, vibes and words are just as welcomed and appreciated. The kindness I've already received has made me unspeakably thankful for the support systems of my family and bar families alike.
