The Backstory
My brother-in-law, Chez, went into the hospital 15 days ago in Myrtle Beach, SC complaining of abdominal pains. At just 21 years old, his appendix had ruptured causing an infection within his abdomen. The doctors pumped him full of antibiotics to fight the infection but it did not respond to their treatments. After over a week of attempted remedies and with hurricane Florence looming, they determined Chez needed emergency surgery.
The Surgery
Chez spent hours in surgery. Once inside, the doctors discovered more than one abscess and that his intestines had collapsed. The surgeons cleaned out the infection, removed his appendix, and removed 14 inches of his small intestine. The recovery will be long from such an invasive surgery. Chez is working on gaining weight(he lost more than 20lbs while in the hospital) and eating solids again.
Why GoFundMe?
Unfortunately, just two months before this medical emergency, Chez lost his health insurance coverage. He is currently working in an industry where benefits are not customarily offered to employees. The cost of his lengthy hospital stay, all of the exploratory procedures, and, ultimately, his complicated and emergent surgery will all fall upon Chez’s shoulders. We all know the cost of medical procedures in America...this will be substantial.
In in an effort to help Chez with this financial burden, I’ve started this GoFundMe. Anything we raise will help...even if it is just enough to cover groceries and gas. All of the money will go directly to Chez and be used for medical bills and living expenses while he is unable to work.
