Do you remember Camp Icthus?
Maybe you're currently involved in our organisation? Maybe we haven't seen you for some time? Perhaps Icthus matters to someone you care about? Maybe you've heard about the important work that we do?
We need you. Now is the moment.
The place we love and have called home for over 50 years is being sold by its current owners and we feel the site is essential to Icthus' survival as an organisation and its future camps.
We are calling on all our Members and Friends, far and wide, to make a generous donation so we can purchase the Camp Icthus site. That’s right – we are going to buy the site!
Camp Icthus has not changed all that much. We still do all the things you remember. We take young people for a 10-day adventure camping journey based on the Gippsland Lakes and surrounding bush, beaches and rivers.
We empower our campers physically and emotionally, teaching them life skills in a caring and safe environment. Surrounded by nature - no screens, no phones, no shops, no worries. We step lightly on the land.
We go hiking in the bush, sailing on the lakes and canoeing wherever our paddles take us.
We grow young people into our leaders of tomorrow – inspiring a strong sense of serving by volunteering. We give them stories to tell and ultimately a place to belong ... but you knew that already.
The stakes are high.
We need an enormous effort from everybody and a level of generosity never needed before.
We need at least $400,000. It’s a big number, we get that. You may be aware we had a chance to purchase the site seven years ago and we missed out, we can’t let this happen again.
If we succeed, we guarantee our Camping Program can continue to make a difference in the world, and we can all have access to the site through dedicated maintenance and training programs, and for members to hire. If we fail, the very existence of Camp Icthus is at risk.
It’s that important.
