Cait's Gender-Confirming Surgery Fund!

Hello all! As you may or may not know, I'm non-binary and have been out to my friends and some of my family for the past four years now. Ever since the onset of puberty, my breasts have been a constant point of tension, always occupying this peripheral position of anxiety and pain for me for the bulk of my adolescence and adult life. I can't even recount how many times I've sobbed on the phone to my mom in the middle of the night about my chest feeling so alien and horrible to me, like this foreign lump that always makes itself known no matter how loose my clothing is or how much I bind. I didn't realize that this was gender dysphoria until my late teens, and now that I'm on Grinnell's insurance, I can finally take some concrete steps to deal with it!

I scheduled my top surgery for Spring Break way back in November, and had been mulling it over for a long while before I even let people know that I was trans. My therapist has diagnosed me formally with gender dysphoria and is absolutely pro-surgery, and I've had multiple consultations with my surgeon and I'm 100% certain that this the right decision for my mental health and general well-being. I just got the out-of-pocket price today, and while it's comparably more feasible than it would be on my parents' insurance, I'm still a first-gen student worker and make $9 an hour for a little under 10 hours of labor a week. Since I'm graduating in May and losing Grinnell's insurance in August, this is one of the last chances in the foreseeable future for me to even consider surgery, so I need help!

Really any amount is appreciated, and even if you can't give, if you're in Iowa during Spring Break and would like to say hi while I'm bed-bound I would be absolutely over the moon to see you! This has been something very close to my heart for a long time, and it would mean so much to me to be able to walk across the commencement stage as the best version of myself in May : - )

xoxoxo,

Cait
