After Axel's story went live on Snap Judgment, tons of wonderful people reached out asking how they could help. Now you can! We're trying to help buy Axel a computer so that he get back on his feet.
You all know Axel's story: He lived in New York for 35 years, but was deported after a minor traffic accident, leaving behind his children and the only life he'd ever known. Since then Axel has survived police violence and imprisonment, but he's struggled to make ends meet in Mexico.
The problem: Axel's secret weapon has always been computers. They aren't just a hobby - they're essential to his livelihood. Since his deportation, Axel's main source of income has been fixing laptops, cell phones, and other electronics.
But recently, Axel's computer was stolen after someone broke into his apartment. Losing that computer was like losing a piece of himself. It was both his main source of happiness and income, and without it, Axel can't run essential software that helps him fix other electronics.
How you can help: We're trying to buy Axel a new, dependable computer, as well as a toolkit that will help him fix other electronics. Any donations will be a great help!
All money will go directly to Axel, 100%! I produced Axel's story on Snap Judgment (yep, I'm that Levi), and I still visit him frequently. Axel is very excited about this fundraiser, and I'll make sure all the money goes straight to him.
Amidst the constant news cycle of mass deportations and ICE raids, it may feel like we're helpless to fight back. But we're not! Helping Axel is also a means of resisting those who would keep us apart.
