Help bring Luís to DrupalCon EU 17

My name is Luís Algarvio, I'm 33 years old and I'm from Lisbon, Portugal, that place in the corner of Europe that recently has caught the attention of the western world, with a big boom in tourism ;)

I'm here to ask for your help!

I would like to attend to this year's DrupalCon Europe 2017 edition in Vienna, but unfortunately I can not afford it. DrupalCon Europe is a conference that seeks to promote and gather people, ideas, companies and training around Drupal, a popular PHP Framework, and is held every year in a different city in Europe since the early 2000s.

But before I explain why It is important for me to attend it, let me talk a bit about me.

I love nature, history, sociology, science and arts. I speak fluently English, French and Portuguese. My hobbies are about passion, fulfilling dreams, discovering natural wonders and finding something meaningful to do or defend as part of activism in various fields, such as freedom of press, civil rights, sustainable consumption, and natural and organic/biological food and products.

I work as a Drupal full stack developer and spend much of my work and free time as an enthusiastic contributor and organizer in the Drupal Portugal and Docker Lisbon communities, on open source projects, and on research and training. Concepts like the Agile manifesto and the DevOps work culture interest me, which I often teach to colleagues, with whom I also share my latest findings and creations.

Attending this event is thus naturally interesting for me.

However that is at risk because I haven't secured enough savings nor funding from sponsors. I work as a freelancer, so while I'm away I'm not working, so I also don't get paid, which makes it impossible for me to sponsor myself for the total costs of attending it.

This event is important to me professionally and personally.

It can serve to reunite with former colleagues and meet a lot of people from my work field, share thoughts and get further training from sessions, but more importantly, serve as a volunteer to the DrupalCon and contribute further to bigger causes with ideas, time and work:

The Drupal.org Infrastructure team is working under numerous projects that are interesting to me and in which I have experience: testing and deciding which source code control and CI platform to switch to in a list that includes GitLab; organizing and exploring chat bridges to IRC, in which Matrix.org is fortunately gaining the upperhand; Docker and Composer related projects and others. All these topics will be quite exposed during the DrupalCon.

Then the Community Working Group, which has recently came under public scrutiny is proposing tracks in the conference, so that people can participate in a debate to improve the governance of the community and restore some trust that was lost.

Lastly to make additional efforts at bringing events like the DrupalCon and the Drupal Dev Days to Portugal, increase the attendance of Portuguese people and companies in such events and grow our Portuguese community in the near future.

If you would be kind to make a contribution and help me achieve this, to secure my attendance, it would mean a lot to me! With the ticket funded, I will be able to make it!

The DrupalCon ticket varies between 450,00 € to 550,00 € + 20% VAT depending on how early I get it, so I've set the donation objective to 600€ to have surplus for a late ticket.
