Help Brave Daniel Giffin Beat Brain Cancer

Gazette story: The Amazing Grace of Daniel Giffin, a Colorado Springs boy fighting cancer

11-year-old Daniel Giffin is a fun-loving outdoor enthusiast from Colorado Springs. Last August he was the youngest unicyclist to ride to the top of Pikes Peak. In January he was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain cancer, Grade 3 anaplastic ependymoma with RELA Fusion.  He has had 2 brain surgeries since Christmas and undergone 33 days of radiation treatments all which have been unsuccessful at stopping new tumor growth.  He is now set to begin a targeted chemo therapy trial and undergo his 3rd brain surgery in  5 months early June.

Before discovering the tumor, Daniel had been having nausea, headaches and foot numbness on and off for about a month and a half. He had visited the ER around Thanksgiving, but more minor possible causes we're being ruled out first. Then while on a trip to Disneyland the week before Christmas, his left foot went palsy-like and he began stumbling and was unable to flex his foot. The family called his doctor and decided to go the ER.

Daniel has great faith in God and comforts everyone saying "God is in control." He continues to focus on the positive in his life rather than things he can't change. His parents are going through a divorce and that has been one of the toughest things for him to deal with.

Some people say Daniel should be Mayor because he is so friendly and well spoken and isn't afraid to speak up even at public meetings about caring for his community's bike trails. He says why not aim for President. Our prayers are that his beautiful mind and personality will not be altered and he can still lead a good quality of life while going through the surgeries and chemo and clinical trial treatments and something out there will work at conquering his cancer. We have great hope that Daniel will come through this ordeal and he can be cured of this cancer.

If you decide to donate to Daniel through Go Fund Me, the funds will  go to Daniel and to help with Daniel's ongoing care. We most appreciate prayers. Gas cards (Costco) and food cards help too, he loves Taco Bell and Sonic. Thank you for taking the time to check out Daniel's story.

Daniel post surgery at Phoenix Children's Hospital. If you have to be in the hospital at Christmas there are perks, like lots of toys and stuffed animals.
It's hard to catch Daniel not smiling, even after brain surgery. What a relief!

The original brain tumor was the size of half of an adult fist. Daniel immediately felt better after it was removed. It turned out it was caused by a high grade anaplastic epedemoma cancer. It took a lot of testing by top hospitals, Barrows and St. Judes to determine pathology and a lot of time and before he could undergo radiation to ensure it wouldn't come back, two new pea-sized tumors appeared. He underwent a 2nd brain surgery in February 2019 followed by 33 days of radiation travelling 140 miles a day to Denver. His new tumor is the size of a blueberry now and he will undergo a 3rd brain surgery in June.
