Representation Matters : Support Medical Students

Donation protected
Representation matters. Black doctors matter.

Why aren’t there more Black Doctors? Racism, Classism, or Apathy?

So how do we design the future in a way that more people have an equal opportunity to excel in America?  We can discuss and debate historical and present-day discrimination infinitely, but that alone doesn’t move us in the direction of a solution. Medical practitioners don’t just diagnosis problems, they create solutions and that’s why they save lives.

By making this tax-deductible donation,  we can successfully continue our education and training to enter the field of medicine. We need solution oriented people like you to help us in our journey.

We know that there have been barriers for women in America. We know that there have been glass ceilings for people of color in America. We also believe that we can empower ourselves through education and building a community of supporters like you. Community building means you don’t just talk about what needs to be fixed; you contribute your skills, knowledge, time, and resources to designing a better future.

My name is Krystal Savice and I am the current President of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and second-year medical student at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harlem, New York (Touro COM).

Touro COM is committed to increasing the number of underrepresented minorities in medicine and training osteopathic physicians to practice medicine in underserved communities. SNMA was founded in 1964 under the guise of the National Medical Association, which is the largest organization dedicated to political and social advocacy of African American physicians and their patients. SNMA is an organization dedicated to promoting the scholarship and professional development of current and future minority medical students.

On April 17-21, 2019, we’re planning to attend The Student Annual Medical Education conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this conference, we will be trained and exposed to various physician mentors and enrichment opportunities necessary for our advancement as future doctors.

Your small contribution will have a big impact on our lives and our future in the medical industry. We hope you’ll consider making a donation of $10, $25, $50 or more. Even if your contribution is a smaller amount, sharing this on Facebook and Twitter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

WHAT DOES THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

This $5,000 pays for 6 executive board and 10 general body members to attend The Annual Medical Education Conference. The money raised here will help offset the costs of the conference, transportation, lodging, food, and materials needed for presentations. If we exceed our goal, we can bring more students from our organization to the conference.  Our organization also produces educational events on a regular basis throughout the year. In this month alone, we have scheduled four events for Black History Month, those which are listed below.

Emotional Wellness for the Minority Medical Student 2/5/2019

Lupus: Black Women’s Silent Killer  2/12/2019

Black & Latino Men in Medicine Crisis 2/26/2019

Recognizing African-American Excellence 2/28/2019

These events are of great value to many students and require a budget to produce. If we raise enough money to send all of the students in our organization to the conference, we can utilize additional funds to support our annual programming on campus.

Student National Medical Association is a 501C3  participate. Please place your complete information (email and other pertinent information) to receive your Tax- Deductible receipt.
