Help Bethany become a CLC

Donation protected
Bethany has been supporting and helping pregnant and breastfeeding Moms since 2009.  As a Mom of 4 and a Birth Doula-breastfeeding is certainly a passion of hers. In the past she has helped Moms through the WIC program as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.  She voluteers her time helping hundreds of Moms during their breastfeeding journey, and is the founder of our local Breastfeeding Support Group-Eat at Mom's-Corning Area.  This group not only meets in person at the Corning Library twice a month, but she also created a facebook group to help moms from home as well. Bethany is the head of the committee that organizes our local The Big Latch On event for our area each year as well.

Bethany would like to become a Certified Lactation Counselor.  By having the training and credentials, it would give her the opportunity to help reach more moms and help the community better. This will also provide her with a better ability to make house calls to group members if needed for additional support.

The funds raised would allow Bethany to attend training in Syracuse, NY from March 27th-31st. (including travel expenses).  As a breastfeeding Mom that has been helped by Bethany I would like to help her become certified at little  to no cost to her.  Considering she does all of this to help the community with no finanical gain-I feel it's the least we can do.  Having more moms able to succeed at breastfeeding makes for a healthier community.  If Bethany has helped you, or you're touched by her story and would like to donate to a good cause, please donate what you can.  Every little bit helps. Thank you!

Read this below to learn more about why it's important to have more CLC's in our area:

CLC certification means that a person has received training and competency verification in breastfeeding and human lactation support including assessing the latching and feeding process, providing corrective interventions, counseling mothers, understanding and applying knowledge of milk production including in special circumstances and other commonly encountered situations. All of this give CLCs a strong foundation with which to help moms and babies.

A counseling approach is used to gather information and provide appropriate support to the mother and her family. CLCs work as part of the health care team, assuring appropriate referrals and recommendations. CLCs are qualified to provide education, counseling and clinical management.

CLCs provide breastfeeding counseling and lactation management in:

- Maternity units in hospitals and birth centers

- NICUs and special care nurseries

- outpatient lactation clinics

-WIC

-Physician and midwife offices
