I am starting this GoFundMe page for my daughter's grandmother. Let me tell you a little bit about Bernie Leuschen. Bernie did contunied care aid for her career. She is a grandmother, mother, wife, aunt and sister. She means so much to so many people. She worked to improve the lives of others for a living, before her injury. She has always put her family first before herself, which is why I decided to start this page. Now she needs our help and she can't do it alone. This has had a huge impact on her life.
On Oct.28th 2017 Bernie had sustained a back injury, while changing a patient in a body sling and rolled back on Bernies arms, she felt a "Pop" in her back. It was painful but she decided to try to walk it off and carry on with her shift. Within a week she lost all strength and function to her legs.
Bernie spent a total of 14 weeks in the hospital to recover enough to be able to return home. There they conducted a numberous tests. She has been a total paraplegic since Nov, 6th 2017.
She was discharged Feburary 10th 2018. Left with no answers left paralized.
As of April 30th 2018 she is cut off of everything and that includes physiotherapy and medications. Recently, Bernie has developed two severe blood clots in her left thigh, that requires more medications that are not covered.
Bernie has been denied WCB, as a result by May 12th WCB plans on removing her chair lift and wheelchair, saying that there is no link between her injury and the workplace. Bernie has appealed WCB ruling. WCB is expected to approve or deny it by May 20th.
The money will be used for a Wheelchair lift, Wheelchair, Transportation to and from appointments, Medications, Physical Therapy, and Legal Expenses.
