Hello. I'm Ben Emberley, and I'm from the UK. I'm a freelance Composer and Arranger, and I have Aspergers Syndrome. My dream/goal is to successfully make it as a professional, and to branch out into the musical world.
I have been involved in music and Videogaming almost my entire life. I grew up with them and they became part of me. Being a musician and a music lover, the music/soundtrack of a game for me, can be the ultimate factor in a good or great gaming experience. Owing to how sensory reception can be heightened in people who have Aspergers/Autism, the music always stuck out. I saw the 2011 E3 event and was so taken in by the incredible Nintendo presentation that I knew that working in the Video Game Music world was my calling, one hundred percent. This is where my future lies. My first success was being contracted to compose music for the 'Legend of Zelda - Symphony of the Goddesses' Concert.
But sadly, as a freelance musician, I have to rely on commissions from clients in order to sustain myself. I am only beginning to start out making a career for myself. I do not have effective networking; my circle of musical acquaintances is very small and needs to be enlarged in order to bring my musical expertise to a larger audience. Because of this, I am unable to acquire the quantity of commissions in order to sustain myself. I also am unable to effectively advertise myself due to a lack of resources for this same reason, and in order to succeed in this line of profession, I need to find to finance myself in order to promote my musical work and credentials, to develop my professional network in order to bring my work to as wide an audience as possible, and invest in a musical future with certainty.
To do this, I plan to travel to the United States in January 2019 to attend and speak at an event called MAGFest, to integrate into the musical world, MAGFest is an event which promotes and celebrates Video Game music soundtracks, which are becoming increasingly more frequent in the Classical music repertoire. More and more Videogame Soundtracks employ Orchestral scores, and the Classical music world is seeking more and more to include soundtracks into its concert world, as a means of bringing younger people into its sphere of influence, and to increase its demographic. The older generation of Classical music lovers is beginning to die out, and in a modern era of pop music and videogame immersion, Orchestral videogame scores are the biggest and most effective medium in reaching the younger generations. I will be speaking on the subject on how Videogame Music can change one's life for the better, based on my experiences and observations of how this new genre of music is being given more and more of the spotlight due to its appeal. In addition to this, I would also be able to increase the effective network I have and to build and develop relationships and connections with new musicians in order to broaden my own sphere of influence, thereby enabling myself to be advertised more and result in increased awareness in the musical profession, resulting in far greater opportunities for me to assert and market my musical skills for professional purposes.
Travelling to the United States is neither easy or cheap - a return flight to Dulles/Reagan International Airport from London would cost approx. £800, and the Hotel the event is being hosted in has a tariff of £200 per night.
I am searching for some way to finance or invest in this plan in order to make this lifetime goal a reality. If it can happen, I would be successfully able to develop and enlarge my network of musical contacts, resulting in advertising myself as a composer/arranger and conductor, and also greatly assist in raising awareness of my existence to others working in this field, as well as the existence of my skills and work which I can professionally offer, thereby resulting in far greater opportunities for professional employment working in this industry.
