There isn’t room here for all of the stories. About the giving. The sharing. The total commitment to friends, to causes, to community. There isn’t space for the origin myth—a childhood so profoundly unusual that it could be book-length fiction. No, we need to lead with the request: our dear friend Aurora Siegel has breast cancer and needs our support.
Still, you can’t separate the subject from the context. Yes, she has built an army of “chosen family” who will be here to support her. But she has also spent a lifetime in the hospitality industry, where insurance can be an afterthought, where paid time off to fight an aggressive disease doesn’t exist. Where you can be a pillar of multiple communities and not have a safety net. So, in this case, we are our sister’s keeper.
Join us in taking care of someone who has taken care of dozens of us. Join us in helping, giving, sharing our time and being present.

PS. In the interest of transparency we will be publishing regular updates that cover details of treatment and how funds are being allocated. This initial ask—and the related dollar figure—is based on a very rough estimate of the cost of Aurora being unable to work normal hours during the four months of chemotherapy currently planned, as well as the cost of supplemental treatments not covered by insurance.
