How we got here
August 30th 2019 should have been one of the happiest days in Karolina Beczek’s life; the day she gave birth to her second child, Adam.
Unfortunately, this day was also full of sadness. While she was in labour in Dublin, Karolina’s husband, Artur, was also in hospital in Warsaw, Poland, where an MRI had shown some physical alterations in his brain.
When he returned to Ireland, a biopsy was performed to verify the type of tumour: a glioblastoma grade IV. These types of tumours are aggressive and often inoperable – as is the case for Artur.
Why we need your help
Artur and his family have been told that there is nothing more that doctors in Ireland can do for him, and that he has only months to live.
However, there is an immunotherapy treatment available in Germany that has been shown to reduce the size of these tumours. If he responds to this treatment, Artur may get to watch his two children grow up.
But to get him this treatment, we need your help.
Where your money will be going
Artur’s immunotherapy treatment will take place over six months. During this time, he and Karolina will be flying over and back to Germany for each treatment, and staying in accommodation beside the hospital, which works on an out-patient basis.
Our current campaign goal is €35,000. This will be used in the following ways:
· Six months of immunotherapy treatments (estimated between €25,000 and €30,000)
· Flights to Germany for Artur and Karolina, as well as train tickets and taxis (estimated €400 per trip)
· Accommodation beside the hospital (estimated at €1000 for the first 10-day trip)
· The rest of the campaign money will be used for:
o Flights, train travel, accommodation and food expenses for subsequent trips to Germany for treatment
o Medication and any unforeseen medical treatments
