Help Kids Who Can’t Afford Sports

As Armijo High School's Junior Varsity football team prepared to take the field, shots rang out. Students and visitors in the stadium stands began to panic, as did others around the school.
The Armijo boosters worked hard to fill the stadium as coaches and others worked to build the sports program. It was a record crowd.
Tragically, a 16-year-old died and an 18-year-old was shot in a gunfight off the campus, but close enough to overwhelm the school. Police eventually arrested two suspects. One was hiding in the school's gym where police had some 500 students/visitors on lockdown. Police picked him out as they had students, one by one, come out of the gym with their hands over their heads.
When police cleared the crime scene and allowed students to reunite with their parents, Parent John Espino began assessing the impact on the school, community, and the football program. John, whose sons were in uniform waiting to play on the school's football opening night, is also the President of the Armijo Athletic Boosters, which operates on a shoestring.
"Our concessions lost about $700-$1,000 in food sales," John said after the shooting and cancellation of the football game.
Students rely on those funds to support the football team and 17 other Armijo High School sports. Some kids can't afford the expense of playing. We can't let them suffer.
I told John I would help. I'm starting here with a GoFundMe. With your help, we aim to get back the $1,000 lost PLUS add a lot more for the Armijo Indian sports teams.
"Amazing things are hapening at Armijo!" John said. "Coach Gonzales is trying to build a program and we are in the beginning of our All Sports Boosters to serve 800 student athletes in 18 sports."
