Many of you may feel like me and not know where to even start to help out so many others that are in need, but have a huge desire to help.....
I grew up down the street from Christy and graduated high school with her. We weren't close friends but through Facebook we were able to reconnect. We both have children the same age so we are able to empathize with each other going through the toddler years. A few months ago, Christy, Anthony and Finley move to St. Thomas to start a new adventure in their life. Christy works from home so this was perfect setting for her family. I followed her posts on Facebook with Finley dancing on the beach, their dog catching Iguanas, crazy crabs in their yard. But since Hurricane Irma has hit I haven't been able to stop thinking about Christy and her family. I can't imagine what they are going through-they are truly living in a nightmare with a child watching it unfold. The island is completely destroyed. Though they are safe and staying with a friend, their own home is uninhabitable. They have lost their possessions. Finley's school is destroyed. Christy recently had knee surgery and needs to get Physical Therapy ASAP so she can have a second surgery. They have not been able to get off the island. That's the first step for them. They need to get to Florida. It will take months for the island to get power again. I have been in touch with Christy through limited cell service and she wants everyone to know that whatever funds are remain, they will be sending supplies back to the island once they get back to the States.
They are in need of clothes, shoes and toys. If you can donate in that way, I know they would be very grateful. If you can and are able, you can also donate financially here. We will keep you posted with updates as we hear from the family.
