Help Amuchin Study Computer Engineering at Mohawk!

$1,920 of $8,000 goal

Raised by 16 people in 2 months
Amuchin Feoley Togba (26) has recently been accepted into the Computer Engineering Technician program at Mohawk College. This is great news! He was studying electronic engineering in his home country of Liberia, and dreams of getting a computer engineering job that would allow him to contribute to Liberian society and train other young people in Liberia.

Things have been difficult in Liberia, with a weak economy and instability from political protests. Amuchin has been trying to get a good education there, but it has been difficult.

That's why it's so exciting for him to be accepted into Mohawk College, a strong school with many international students in Hamilton, Ontario. As a bonus, Hamilton is also where his mom, Feona, currently lives. She is excited to be reunited with her son and help him as he goes through his schooling.

But studying as an international student isn't cheap, and Amuchin needs to pay the remaining balance on his first semester of the Computer Engineering Program by ($6400) by June 14. Thanks to you, we were able to pay his $1600 deposit in March.

THANK YOU for helpung Amuchin pursue his studies in Hamilton! Time is running out quickly on the June 14 deadline.

Just over a month away! This Mothers Day, take your mom or the treasured mom in your life out to a concert to help make another mama's dream come true.

This evening of storytelling and song features Feona herself and original songs born out of her refugee experiences, as well as Hamilton musician Peter Tigchelaar. Get tickets here to help us raise the remaining $6300 of Amuchin's first semester tuition: www.facebook.com/events/571452313351173/

If you know you're busy the evening of May 10, consider buying a ticket for someone who'd love to come but couldn't afford it, like other refugees in the city.

A thank you message from Feona:
"With a grateful heart, I want to thank all of you wonderful people who have contributed to my son's school. May God continue to bless you. A special thanks to my friend Danielle for all your time and effort in making this possible. I believe we will reach our target in Jesus name."

We're still hoping to reach $8000 by mid-June. Sharing the campaign on social media with a note about why you gave or sharing it in your church or community is a great way to keep our momentum going. Thanks everyone!!

We've surpassed our first goal!! Thanks so much, everyone. Feona and I are blown away by this community's generosity.

Here's the plan from here:
-I will withdraw the $1600 for the deposit to save Amuchin's space at Mohawk College, and Feona and I will go to Mohawk together to pay the deposit next week. (Or pay online, if that works out to be easier.) The money for Amuchin has to be withdrawn from my account, rather than Feona's, because of restrictions related to her OW.
-We'll continue to raise the money for the full first semester of tuition ($6300 to go).

Thanks again everyone. If you haven't shared this fundraiser yet via social media or email, especially in your church networks, that's a GREAT way to keep spreading the word.
