Help Alan Walk Again...

What Happened
It’s amazing how your life can change in an instant. On May 9th, 2019, Alan woke up at 4AM with pain in his neck and a numbing feeling in his arms and hands. Thinking it was a pinched nerve, we headed to the Emergency Room. By 6AM he could not move from the shoulders down.

Alan had suffered a spinal stroke.

Spinal strokes make up less than 1% of all strokes. There is almost no research available on the cause or long-term prognosis for people who have suffered a spinal stroke.  However, studies on spinal injuries in general have shown people continue to see improvement and recovery up to 5 years after their initial injury. One doctor told Alan he wasn’t going to walk again; he is determined to prove that doctor wrong.

Burke Rehabilitation
When Alan arrived at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital on May 21, 2019, he could move his big toe on his left foot. The day after arriving at Burke, Alan began his road to recovery.

We were blessed with an amazing team of physical and occupational therapists who pushed Alan every day to fight for his recovery. Each day was a new surprise. We celebrated every small improvement as a victory towards recovery.

After 6 weeks of inpatient therapy, Alan was released to outpatient rehab. We have been going to Burke three days a week for therapy since July 3, 2019.  Through rigorous and dedicated hard work, and making people laugh along the way with his trademark sense of humor...Alan took his first supported steps on September 23, 2019 while the Burke team lined the halls and cheered him on.

Alan continues to work hard. Every day Alan inspires us with his dedication, his tireless work ethic and his incredible attitude during his recovery.

Continuing Rehab
Unfortunately, insurance is based on the number of therapy sessions and not the actual need for therapy. Alan has used up his allotted sessions and we will now have to pay out of pocket.

In addition to Alan’s outpatient therapy sessions, he has an intensive home therapy program. Part of his home therapy involves exercises which could be bolstered by purchasing a set of Sabo Flex Gloves to assist in recovering the use of his hands. Unfortunately, these gloves are quite expensive at $3,000 and they are not covered by insurance. His occupational therapist thinks these gloves will play a major role in Alan’s home recovery program. The first year is where Alan will see the most significant improvement. To avoid any lapse in Alan’s therapy or lose any of the progress he has already achieved, we must continue the physical and occupational therapy sessions and purchase the Sabo Flex Gloves.

We need your help and support for him to achieve full recovery.

We are asking anyone and everyone, friend or caring stranger to contribute and join Alan on his journey of recovery.  We would not be where we are today without the love and support we have received from everyone. Please help us to “Help Alan Walk Again.”

Thank you.

Additional Information
I am Alan's wife, Jennifer Fox Webb and I have started this campaign in an effort to raise funds for his continued physical and occupational therapy as our insurance has run out. We live in Danbury, CT and travel 3 times a week to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY. The cost for one week of therapies is $1,200, in addition to the $3,000 for the Sabo Flex Gloves. We must pay in full for each week of therapy at the beginning of the week. I will be withdrawing the funds into our bank account in order to write a check every week to pay for Alan's therapy.
