Help Ala and Tom rebuild their life

La nuit était déjà tombée sur le Domaine Tomali-Maniatyn lorsque Tom, Ely, les invités, ainsi que les chiens Moka et Bella se préparaient à aller dormir. Non loin de là, quelques étincelles annonçaient déjà le début d’un véritable désastre... Rapidement, leur amplitude donna naissance à un incendie ravageur.  Heureusement, Moka et Bella ont donné l'alarme et ont réveillé Ely, qui parvint à alerter tout le monde. C’est grâce à eux que tous ont eu la vie sauve.

Dans la nuit glaciale, ils ont assistés, impuissants, au travail dévastateur des flammes. Malgré les tentatives des pompiers de sauver ne serait-ce qu’une partie de leurs biens, il ne reste à présent que la tour de pierre qui, jadis, soutenait fièrement la maison.

Perdus les souvenirs, photos de famille et innombrables biens qui ont traversés guerres, océans et misères pour venir s’installer dans la quiétude qu’était ce petit paradis terrestre. Cette nuit là, cette imposante dame de bois, importée pièce par pièce de l'Europe de l'Est afin de créer cet endroit authentique et magique, s’effondra devant ceux qui l’ont rêvée, souhaitée et créée. 

Les yeux larmoyants et le coeur lourd, Ala et Tom ont dû dire adieu aux murs où ils avaient fêté la naissance de leurs petits-enfants et pleuré le départ de leurs parents, ces murs remplis de souvenirs joyeux et tristes, de merveilleux moments partagés en famille et entre amis.

Réduite en cendres la maison qui avait entendu les « Oui, je le veux » de tous ceux qui l’avaient choisie pour y célébrer leur mariage... Parti en fumée le rêve et la réalisation de toute une vie - d'années de planification, de travail, d'espoir et d'amour…. Disparue aussi leur principale source de revenu...

Mais ce que ce désastre n'a pu voler à ce couple, c'est leur ténacité, leur détermination et leur courage. Alors qu'ils se remettent de ce choc et cherchent la force de faire face à leur nouvelle réalité, de nombreux amis, connaissances, collègues de travail et clients du Domaine leur ont tendu la main: c’est un baume pour leur douleur, ils y ont trouvé réconfort et énergie.

Beaucoup d'entre vous ont demandé - Comment pouvons-nous aider?

 Nous avons besoin de votre support pour aider nos amis à reconstruire leur vie, leur maison et leur avenir. Leur souhait était de bâtir un lieu de réunion, de réjouissances et de sérénité : ne laissons pas cette tragédie l’anéantir. Nous ne pouvons pas remplacer les souvenirs, mais nous pouvons aider à en créer de nouveaux ...

On January 15th, a quiet night at the Tomali-Maniatyn Domain, Tom, Ely and guests as well as the family dogs Moka and Bella, were getting ready to go sleep when tragedy struck.

A fire had quietly started in the house and was spreading at a lightning speed. Thankfully, Moka and Bella raised an alarm and woke up Ely, who helped everyone to safety. All were able to escape with their lives. As they stood, in the freezing night, they watched, powerless, as flames destroyed their beautiful home and all their possessions, the bed & breakfast known to many of us.

Despite the firefighters’ attempts to salvage at least part of their belongings, all that was left aboveground was the stone tower that once proudly stood and supported the house.

Gone are the memories, family pictures and countless irreplaceable items that have been through wars, oceans and hardships to finally rest in this quiet place.

That night, the imposing Eastern-European jewel in the Quebec Townships, imported piece by piece with craftsmanship from Poland to give its authentic and beautiful stature, fell into ashes in front of the eyes of those who spent their life dreaming, planning and creating it.

With a heavy heart and tearful eyes, Ala and Tom had to say goodbye to the place that held so many family memories- where they celebrated the arrival of their grandchildren and where they said their goodbyes to their parents. A house where so many of us spent beautiful moments among friends and family. 

Gone is the Domain where many couples chose to tie the knot and start their new lives together. The retreat where tourists and friends would come to rest and re-energize and visit Quebec's beautiful landscapes.

Gone is a dream and the accomplishment of years of planning, work, hope and love…. as well as their primary source of income.

But what adversity was not able to take from Ala and Tom is their family bond, determination and courage. 

As they are contemplating the future and finding the strength to tackle their new reality, friends, coworkers, former clients have reached out with words of encouragement, sympathy and support. This has been a balm on their wound; they have found solace and strength in them.
